Brazing (sometimes known as silver soldering or hard soldering) requires a much higher temperature than soft soldering (> 450 °C). As well as removing existing oxides, rapid oxidation of the metal at the elevated temperatures has to be avoided. This means that fluxes need to be more aggressive and to provide a physical barrier. [8] Traditionally borax was used as a flux for brazing, but there are now many different fluxes available, often using active chemicals such as fluorides [9] as well as wetting agents. Many of these chemicals are toxic and due care should be taken during their use. Maciunas and his friend Henry Flynt tried to get the Fluxus people to march around outside the circus with white cards that said Originale was bad. And they tried to say that the Fluxus people who were in the circus weren't Fluxus any more. That was silly, because it made a split. I thought it was funny, and so first I walked around with Maciunas and with Henry with a card, then I went inside and joined the circus; so both groups got angry with me. Oh well. Some people say that Fluxus died that day—I once thought so myself—but it turned out I was wrong. Why Does Fluxus Matter?

Yoko Ono, for instance, has claimed authorship of Mieko Shiomi's Disappearing Music For Face (aka Smile) for instance. Barone, Joshua (11 November 2018). Another Fluxus artist, Yoko Ono (b. 1933), created Cut Piece in 1964 (see above), in which she kneeled on a stage and invited audience members to cut off pieces of her clothing with scissors. Ono remained motionless, and the realization of the work was dependent on its audience. The performance created a psychological tension for the viewer, who was asked to participate in an otherwise taboo act.

The work produced by Fluxus was often a socio-political commentary and ridiculed what they saw as art world pretentions, with a focus mainly on performances and organised events rather than commodifiable art objects. Maciunus organised the First Fluxus event in 1961 at the AG Gallery in New York, which was followed by a series of ongoing festivals, concerts and tours, Fluxus newspapers, anthologies, films, food, games, shops, and even Fluxdivorces and Fluxiweddings. Although the artists grouped together for events and collaborations, there were many differing ideas amongst members, sometimes leading to friction within the group. A protective atmosphere with chemically reducing properties can be beneficial in some cases. Molecular hydrogen can be used to reduce surface oxides of tin and indium at temperatures above 430 and 470°C; for zinc the temperature is above 500°C, where zinc is already becoming volatilized. (At lower temperatures the reaction speed is too slow for practical applications.) Very low partial pressures of oxygen and water vapor have to be achieved for the reaction to proceed. YouTube. Archived from the original on 7 March 2016 . Retrieved 9 September 2014. Other reactive atmospheres are also in use. Vapors of formic acid and acetic acid are the most commonly used. Carbon monoxide and halogen gases (for example carbon tetrafluoride, sulfur hexafluoride, or dichlorodifluoromethane) require fairly high temperatures for several minutes to be effective. Fluxus began as an international collective of artists and composers of various nationalities, who worked collaboratively across media. There was a strong base in New York City, with major centres in Germany and Japan. They were a socially motivated group who promoted an inclusive and collective spirit as opposed to what they saw as the functionless art object and the ego-driven artist. Although their ideas were complex, they were united by the idea that life can be experienced as art. Rosin has good flux properties. A mixture of organic acids ( resin acids, predominantly abietic acid, with pimaric acid, isopimaric acid, neoabietic acid, dihydroabietic acid, and dehydroabietic acid), rosin is a glassy solid, virtually nonreactive and noncorrosive at normal temperature, but liquid, ionic and mildly reactive to metal oxides at molten state. Rosin tends to soften between 60–70°C and is fully fluid at around 120°C; molten rosin is weakly acidic and is able to dissolve thinner layers of surface oxides from copper without further additives. For heavier surface contamination or improved process speed, additional activators can be added.Oren, Michel (1993). "Anti-Art as the End of Cultural History". Noun That the little assemblage took at least six months to make suggests that the artist’s self-perception was in considerable flux. — Christopher Knight, Los Angeles Times, 9 Nov. 2023 At a time of great change and flux, here is the story of a person who stood solidly. — Janine Henni, Peoplemag, 8 Nov. 2023 America’s cigarette market is in flux, and new smoking habits threaten to singe makers of pricey brands the most. — Carol Ryan, WSJ, 4 Nov. 2023 Although they’re set in a universe in flux, Ram Brisueño’s collage-paintings have an enduring sense of self. — Mark Jenkins, Washington Post, 3 Nov. 2023 In some ways, this is the story of Manhattan’s Chinatown, too: born in another era and yet urgently of this one, old and new at once, ever in flux and yet somehow timeless, if only in the mind. — Ligaya Mishan David Chow, New York Times, 19 Sep. 2023 Because of the strikes, release dates have been in a constant state of flux and upheaval. The terms resin flux and rosin flux are ambiguous and somewhat interchangeable, with different vendors using different assignments. Generally, fluxes are labeled as rosin if the vehicle they are based on is primarily natural rosin. Some manufactures reserve "rosin" designation for military fluxes based on rosin (R, RMA and RA compositions) and label others as "resin". The word flux comes from Latin: fluxus means "flow", and fluere is "to flow". [2] As fluxion, this term was introduced into differential calculus by Isaac Newton. In transport phenomena ( heat transfer, mass transfer and fluid dynamics), flux is defined as the rate of flow of a property per unit area, which has the dimensions [quantity]·[time] −1·[area] −1. [6] The area is of the surface the property is flowing "through" or "across". For example, the amount of water that flows through a cross section of a river each second divided by the area of that cross section, or the amount of sunlight energy that lands on a patch of ground each second divided by the area of the patch, are kinds of flux.
