CHARLES SPENCER for THE DAILY TELEGRAGH liked the play describing it as an "Highly entertaining schlock-horror show. I read it in one sitting and I normally never do this haha because of my crappy attention span, so this says a lot about this book.

But as I grew older (and my original audience entered their twenties) I felt a need to move into adult writing. This dark comedy was the perfect antidote for me personally after beginning and discarding five books in a row (maybe more). We hear he has been waiting to meet the doctor for two hours having driven for three and a half hours to get to the meeting. I may not like the play, but the popular press didn't mind it too much, except for NICHOLAS DE JONGH of THE EVENING STANDARD who says, "When it came to suffering, the real, hard work was done by an audience condemned to watch this strident, silly piffle.Styler is tricked into thinking he is Easterman, and they think up various methods, but in the end Styler suffocates her with a carrier bag. However, theatre has always been his first love and although Mindgame is his first play he has followed it with a study of the last years of Shackleton, and a musical, The 5,000 Fingers of Dr T.

Comedy, suspense, horror, murder, mind games , confusions, psychology, moreno`s psychodrama everything is inside. Love how Horowitz makes himself a character in his own books and so can critique and recontextualize certain past, less-than-inspired work. Doctor Ennis suddenly awakens, and cries out for help; Easterman straps her to a chair and after removing the jacket, asks Styler to kill her.Unfortunately, the mystery and tense moments never really emerged, mainly because the plot and the idiosyncratic behaviour of the characters were just not believable. An original thriller, Magpie Murders was published last year and got some of the best reviews I've had. Poor Helen Hobson had to play the completely unbelievable character of 'Nurse Plimpton' in such a way I fear she may never get another acting job. He is desperate to see Easterman, and suggests that he wore a strait-jacket to keep him from damaging anything. But we get the point, already, without all the repetitive speeches, and we’d appreciate a bit more action.

We are then taken on a journey of twists and turns for the rest of the play that makes you ask who is the ‘sane’ person here. Another run of performances took place at the Ambassadors Theatre in London in 2018, following a UK tour. A thriller that actually manages to thrill, and a very dark comedy that twists and spirals towards a completely unexpected ending. He is also a well-known children's author with a dozen books including two collections of horror stories to his name.In fact I wrote my first book when I was ten, stuck in a miserable, north London boarding school where reading and telling stories were my only lifeline. Arriving at a hospital for the criminally insane, Styler prepares to speak to murderer Easterman, but ends up clashing with Dr Farquhar about how the interview will take place. She cannot undo the strait jacket straps, and as she bends down to get the scalpel from Easterman, he awakens and grabs her, then stabs her behind a curtain. He goes on to say , "Richard Baron's production, wittily designed by Ken Harrison, combines efficient slasher thrills 'n' chills with outbreaks of pitch-black humour.

This is a fabulous peice of writting, but having performed this play in 2007, I have to say that the more you read it, the more of what Horowitz intended for you to see is revealled. But here I am, writing a book in which I have no idea what's going on, following in the footsteps of a character who refuses to tell me anything. In the end, the actors outperform their characters and the set upstages the play, which is far too static to begin with — and much too silly to take seriously.
