I can’t say exactly what issues are being dealt with within the book without giving too much of the story away, but they are serious and complicated issues.

Laura's an orphan who has spent most o her life in a children's home, dreaming of long-lost relatives coming to find her. She starts to follow her uncle when he starts being secretive about his work and where he goes for hours on end, day and night. I took time to pick out the overarching themes and sections within the book and to particularly express some of the visual elements say Laura’s husky Skye’s eyes looking like x-ray blue to the variety of messages along the coast left for and by Laura, and the colours of St. When orphaned Laura Marlin is sent from the children’s home to live with her uncle in Cornwall, she dreams of a life of excitement just like the characters in her favourite detective novels. Some of the secondary characters were a bit flat, but I think that if the author had expanded on them it would be longer book that probably most ten-year-olds wouldn't want to read.

I think this book is an amazing adventures book and is a book with reflections of real life stories. And when you’ve had time to enjoy the wildness and the little island, head up the trail and continue to the lighthouse. But when her uncle's strange housekeeper Mrs Webb begins to behave in a sinister fashion, spying on her uncle and trying to squeeze information out of her, even Laura realise she cannot deal with all this on her own. Each character definitely had their own manner of speaking throughout the entire story that made it easy to know who was speaking at different parts. Laura Marlin is an orphan who lives at Sylvan Meadows, when her uncle, Calvin Redfern claims her she is sent to St Ives, Cornwall.Mrs Crabtree is an enchanting and eccentric character in her sixties who bleaches her hair and wears exclusively pink, purple and orange. The book was given the impressive title of Blue Peter Book of the Year 2011, so I'm not the only one to be won over. I didn't figure out the mystery before the end of the book, which was really nice because that can be really annoying.
