Description

Crossan’s skill as a writer is at its most pronounced, contributing to a portrayal of adolescence that is subtle and humane’ Irish Times La otra parte triste e inquietante de Apple & Rain fue sobre los problemas psicológicos de Rain y cómo trata a una muñeca como una persona real. My favourite character in this book was Del. He was adorable and a little weird (but I always like them a little weird), and he didn’t let Apple’s flippant and standoffish façade drive him away. I have a heap of respect for him for that, because most people run away when someone requires you to persevere with no guaranteed outcome of friendship (or something more). I think we're all familiar with the concept that beauty is simplicity, and I certainly think that this book right here, fits the description perfectly. Apple and Rain does not have a complex premise full of twists, turns and unpredictable sequences. The writing was poetic, but not overly so. It was simple, but pleasant, seamless and fully capable of guiding the reader towards the core of the story. The story is quite simple. Appolinia Apostopoulou (Apple), has lived for eleven years with her strict Nana, (whom I loved, by the way) who often treats her like a child, much to Apple’s chagrin. When one day, Apple’s estranged mother who had left in hopes of becoming an actress turns up, Apple, wants to move in with the flighty woman.

I have read all of Sarah Crossans novels and this was hands down her best work (in my opinion). It's not one of those typical soppy love stories. It's a tale of learning to love and just dealing with being a teenager. It made me laugh and cry. Overall it is THE best book I've ever read.Nearly two centuries after its first publication, The Snow Queen endures as a tale of love and loss, good and evil, and loyalty in the face of great hardships. One time, the coolest girl in the school asked Apple to hang out and have some fish and chips but Grandma said no. Apple was angry and upset. So when Apple, desperate for her mother’s approval actually does move in with her mother, and meets Rain, her sister, I was confused. And then I had my oh, okay moment when I realised that I wasn’t completely wrong in my initial assumption. Sad Apple does indeed meet sadder Rain with double mommy issues. I knew then that I’d found myself a MG coming-of-age read.

Night Mayor Franklefink has vanished from the Transylvanian Express - and it's up to you to solve the case! Part of the Solve Your Own Mystery seri...The author does well at highlighting the sadness of the Great War, even going so far as to kill off one of the major characters and badly injure another. I think the author had to do this as it would be unrealistic for this family to escape with only one wounded member when many so many died. I really enjoyed this book and i would recommend it to people who like evocative language and stories. And that is what I think about My Name’s Not Friday.

I liked how Apple and Rain was divided into parts according to what Apple was studying in her English class. I think they all had significant meaning to the story, and also gave me a bit of a hint as to what would happen in that part of the story, as well.Since his mum died, Lucas and his dad don't seem to understand each other at all - it's almost as if they're speaking different languages. With a long, hot summer facing him, Lucas is dreading the drama club that his dad has signed him up for - he doesn't know how to be around new people and he can't stand performing. But the people Lucas meets at the club force him to open up and start talking, and when disaster strikes, Lucas is forced to step in and help. Can his new-found friends teach Lucas how to be himself? What lies within are elements with much depth, and emotion. The characters, especially Apple, and the events unfolding were often a little too realistic, and I found myself relating to Apple much more than I expected to. At one point, I decided that if anyone has ever been thirteen, they will find it incredibly easy to connect with Apple. (But if you couldn't and you HAVE been thirteen, please don't ruin the hogwash also known as my conclusions). I think that it would be really hard looking after someone who thinks that a plastic doll is more important than anything around them, especially if your mum has disappeared and your half sister doesn’t even care. This book was extremely moving and shows the true feelings of a girl my age in poems. When I read this book I felt I was in the novel. The characters and scenarios are so realistic, but dramatic, you feel that you know them. I was amazed by how passionate the poems were - I understood Apple in so many ways that it hurt. Congratulations to Sarah Crossan. I loved your book and want more like it, please.
