The Behringer C-2 are very similar to the C-4 both in price and quality, they have a few differences though; The M5 includes 2 mics, so you may worry that your mics will sound off at some point. Not to worry, though, since they work within 1dB of each other. They are consistent and sound about the same. If you use them interchangeably, they shouldn’t have any problems. The Samson C02 is a great option if you don’t want to spend too much or if you don’t have any experience with pencil microphones and just want to try them out. Depending on the intended application you would want one or the other, even though they are both completely capable of recording the same instruments properly.

The frequency response is slightly restrictive coming in at 50 Hz – 20,000 Hz. Now, that’s pretty typical when we’re talking about overhead microphones, but I would’ve personally been better off with 20 Hz – 20,000 Hz.The M5 sounds just like a more expensive microphone, but the actual microphone capsule is not replaceable. You might have some trouble if it breaks. You also don’t have a high-pass switch, nor does the actual mic come with any storage or transport box. Alright, so there isn’t as much to say about microphones as other pieces of equipment, but I also wanted to create some contrast in regards to the Samson C02 pair. It is going to be better at working with sounds that don’t require too much natural low end. Therefore, it’s one of the best microphones for acoustic instruments and percussion. The self-noise can be on the high side, so getting the mic in the best position and close to the instrument will make a difference. Where are they best used for?

The build quality is really good, it has an all-metal body and a robust design which should make it last a lifetime. But today, if you get two of the same microphone, you will notice that there are hardly any differences in the way they sound. Most manufacturers don’t even sell matched pairs anymore for this reason. I previously compared the Rode M5 to the Behringer C-2, where the M5 came out ahead by a mile, but this is not so much the case with the Samson C02 since it’s a much better and more balanced microphone than the Behringer C-2, meaning that it sounds a lot better and closer to what the M5 sounds like. Lightweight and compact design allows the microphones to be mounted on any standard microphone stand The storage case isn’t the best you’ve ever seen, but it will do the job nicely and keep the microphone safe.

Given some of its specific attributes, especially a good SPL level, the Samson CO2 gives a decent performance in the studio. It can work with a wide variety of instruments and vocals at a decent level. Therefore for those that are on a tight budget, it is an ideal option. In fact, considering the quality, it’s one of the most affordable condenser microphones on the market. It can be a good thing if you want to add a bit of natural depth to a vocal to give it some warmth. If you don’t need the extra bass, just move the mic away from the subject a small distance. You might have to try different positions until you get the sound you want. Some Numbers I’m going to start off this list with the pair that I consider to be the best ones and then move on from there. Rode M5 Best-sounding Matched Pair! Rode M5 Just like the C-4, the Behringer C-2 is a great option for someone who is buying his first set of small-diaphragm condenser mics.

It has a slight presence boost at the 7kHz mark and a bit of a roll-offat the really low and high end. The MXL 606 is an inexpensive microphone that can actually pull its weight, having a PAD and HPF makes it really versatile. The low end is very present yet not muddy, giving it a full and warm sound. The mids and highs really do sound open and airy, and even a side-by-side comparison between the C02 and the M5 on my acoustic guitar sounded almost identical. Piano recording: Samson CO2

Features

For the budget price, you actually get two condenser microphones, which is already tempting, to say the least. This, along with the fact that Behringer is a big-deal company in the world of music would definitely incline a music pro and aficionado to look into this model. The carrying box is of great quality, everything fits in it perfectly and it will protect the mics. Lastly, just like with the Rode M5, the Samson C02 doesn’t come with a PAD or a High-Pass filter. How does it sound? They sound very flat and detailed, with no harshness at all. When recording with them you will be able to capture the true essence of the instruments. These are small diaphragm condenser mics that cover frequencies from 20Hz to 20kHz, which is more than a decent range. This means that you can use them even for bass drum recording, as the low frequencies in drum bass start at around 20Hz.
