The trio of aliens immediately show up after that and the rest of the issue is comprised of fighting and arguing between the two groups. He’s important because the Fortress is at the bottom of the sea and, as we all learned recently from OceanGate, subs can only go so far down before they implode. I felt this review would best serve as an exploration of some of the context behind the series and what that could mean for it.

And hope against hope that they can find some Kryptonian tech in there that might help them fight back against the aliens. From the wrinkles on Gordon’s forehead to the brick walls, the coloring perfectly emphasizes Robertson’s inks and blends to create the gritty atmosphere that is so important to Gotham.

Just last year Mattson Tomlin found great success with Batman: The Imposter (check out Casper’s review! In all honestly this should have been a Justice League story but aside from that nit pick it is an ok story.

Popverse is owned by Gamer Network Limited, a ReedPop company and subsidiary of Reed Exhibitions Limited. Charged with war crimes committed by the Krytonians prior to the destruction of Krypton, Superman agrees to submit himself for possible execution before an alien tribunal. Darick Robertson's art (The Boys, Transmetropolitan) is an interesting choice here, but Whitta's story is a really interesting one about legacies and families and responsibility. If Diego Rodriguez’s colors weren’t so good, many pages in this comic would look downright unprofessional. A very interesting and action packed Elseworlds story with a very interesting latter third and a really fun ending.Superman has disappeared, and aliens have thrown all technology back to essentially the dark ages (cliche' number 237).

We get to see Batman work with the Justice League, assemble his own team of much lesser known heroes, put his detective skills to work on a really intriguing case, and ultimately save the world. In the mysterious absence of the Last Son of Krypton, Batman must rally the rest of the Justice League to counter the alien threat… but first, he must quell a crime wave on the blacked-out streets of Gotham! Now standing complete, Batman: Fortress is an admittedly strange book, with its awkwardly placed sense of humor and choice of having Superman willingly go into hiding when Earth is under attack. This is just a poorly characterized spineless version of the character and I’m not sure Gary Whitta even realizes what he has written based on the way the rest of the comic plays out. The interplay between Batman and Lex carries the latter half of the series, with Lex’s constant conniving to save his own skin at the expense of those around him.But there's some off-model art and some story and character elements that only work if you truly embrace that this is an elseworlds/what-if type of universe. This twist keeps in line with both characters on an abstract level – Clark Kent would give up his powers so long as he knows it saves lives and another Superman he can trust is willing to replace him.
