Each time the Captain announces a course, the Engineer crosses out a symbol corresponding to the announced course (north, south, east, or west), signifying a breakdown. Ecco una piccola lista di consigli per gli acquisti per tutti i palati e per tutte le tasche, scritta in collaborazione con i Giullari e Claudio77 (. Nyugalom, a játék játszható nyolcnál kevesebb játékossal és két és fél méter hosszú asztal nélkül is! Although the game still plays well with 4 players, it will really shine at 6-8 and if you feels it will be hard to get so many people together you need to be aware you may lose a bit of the excitement this game can provide. If you loved Captain Sonar but can’t quite get eight players together to have another game session, then Sonar Family offers a great alternative.

Some of our partners may process your data as a part of their legitimate business interest without asking for consent. The game is set in an age of economic war where there is a battle for the control of the ocean’s depth. On each move, you have to announce the direction journeyed (north, east, south, west) but not your location. Il tempo reale e la coordinazione fra i giocatori rende il titolo divertente, breve e molto sfidante.Separated by cardboard screens, each team divides their submarine’s responsibilities into four unique roles: captain, first mate, engineering and radio operator. The mistake might not be clear until after your boat sinks, and there’s not much team members can do to mitigate the problem. One way that can happen is when a sub needs to surface for repairs (or because they moved themselves into a corner–you can’t cross your own previous path), because the forces of entropy and time are going to bring it down, despite the best efforts of the Engineer.

The First Mate keeps charges the various sub-systems (heh) in the vessel and communicates information between the Captain and Engineer. The Captain is ultimately in charge of everything, but is also chiefly responsible for plotting the course their sub takes by shouting out a direction (NORTH, SOUTH, EAST or WEST) then drawing a little line on a map in front of them indicating where they’ve gone. Mostly they’re going to be shouting out directions (north, south, east, or west) and marking where their submarine is going on the handy dry-erase map. First mate will need to relay to captain the need to use drone/sonar systems so that the captain can priorities the system. This is a tense game, particularly if you’re performing the two main roles of Captain (where it’s easy to be overwhelmed by information, especially in realtime) or Radio Operator (where a single second’s inattention can be the difference between victory defeat). It’s not the only team-based game like this (see Space Cadets: Dice Duels for a similar, but more chaotic and more difficult to teach game) but it should be one of many.

The game had one problem: it was best played with eight players, as teams of four, with each player assuming one of the roles on the submarine, without anyone needing to double-up on tasks. Important : In both game modes, the Captain must wait for the First Mate and the Engineer to perform their tasks and announce "OK" before announcing a new course. The catch here is that, without knowing where the other team started from, tracking them down involves a combination of making sure they follow directions exactly, while at the same time comparing the route they’ve plotted against the game’s map. In the future, subs can be operated by a crew of four but run on whatever powered Tron’s light cycles. Also enjoy the Custom Pack, allowing you ot adapt any map from the Captain Sonar range to the play style you want.

In Oh Captain only the captain is active and controls all the stations for which players are recruited step by step into the game. With five, you could prepare “silent” mode, which lets the captain move the sub up to four spaces in any one direction—without having to announce to the other team which direction it was. There’s plenty of shouting and laughing and trying to figure out how the heck your enemy did that move if they are where you thought they were supposed to be. When I opened the box and read the rules I found the actual game was much better than I was hoping for as the developers added interesting features like real time action, hidden strategies, erasable boards and much more.

But it’s a risky decision, too, since surfacing allows the other team to take several additional moves. The enemy submarine is more than one space away from the mine or torpedo impact: The enemy Captain announces "ALL CLEAR" and play resumes as normal. Every player is in fact both focused on doing “the right choice” on their own board while keeping an eye on what the rest of the crew is doing.

Now, if only one can find a great number of very committed players to play the full campaign with the secondary missions. Conclusion: Operation Dragon will appeal to veteran Captain Sonar players who want to try something bigger and more immersive than one-off scenarios. The Captain can move his submarine one space at a time in one of four directions: north, south, east, or west. A First Mate readies weapons, remote mines and tech devices that the Captain deploys to either deal damage to the enemy ship, avoid detection, or to glean information that the Radio Operator can use to hone in on the enemy position.
