Gemma had been one of the few that Nyktos had secreted away from Kolis’s Court with the aid of gods like Bele and others and then sheltered in the Shadowlands. He gave them sanctuary. A sliver of peace. I want a future. I want to live. I want to experience a life where I have control of my future. I want us,” I whispered. “But I need a future where we defeat Kolis and the Rot goes away. Where those in Iliseeum and in the mortal realm are safe. That’s what’s important. The only thing that matters.” I'm still freaking out over how freaking awesome this book is. I love this series more and more with each book. I'm starting to think that I might love this just a tad more than the original. Don't fret, I love Poppy and Casteel and their story as much as I've always had, but there's something about Sera and Nyktos that has me in a chokehold. It’s the truth,” she said, turning to him. “You cannot hide that from her. You may not be able to even try to do so.” Romance- The chemistry between Sera and Nyktos is off the charts. It's so easy to root for them. Romance is one thing that kept me interested and reading, instead of just skimming through this book. Trust me y'all will love it. Also, I admit that they're the superior couple.
It was not intentional,” Holland said. “But it was her time. You intervened, upset the balance, and it had to be righted.” plus, the smut was so much hotter in this book. i love how our inexperienced lil primal started getting confident— It was as if he’d compelled the very air itself to enter my body, and it tasted of his scent— citrus and fresh air. The darts of lights cleared, and my lungs expanded with breath. The shaking continued in my hands as his thumb swept across my pulse, now racing for entirely different reasons. He stood so close to me that there was no stopping the flood of memories—the feel of his mouth against my throat, and his hands on my bare skin. The pain-tinged pleasure of his bite as he fed from me. Him moving inside me, creating the kind of pleasure that wouldn’t be forgotten and warmed my blood even now.He pinned me with a bland look. “If it makes you feel better to do so, then go ahead. I’m sure it will entertain Nektas.” Did I expect him to say something else? That I mattered? To him? And that he cared for me, even though he couldn’t love? After what I’d plotted? I didn’t. Nyktos had gone still. “The act of killing a mortal while feeding has been forbidden since the dawn of time.”
Yeah, except I had technically done that with Bele, paving the way for her to replace Hanan if he fell. Also, the way JLA handled, and portrayed anxiety was spot on for me. I really appreciated the way it was written and never looked down upon as a weakness. The love of the Primal I’d spent the entirety of my life planning to kill. It didn’t matter that I’d believed it was the only way to save my kingdom. He’s likely cautious right now,” Penellaphe said. “And I imagine he’s also very curious, considering exactly what could be hidden away in the Shadowlands, how it could be possible for embers of life to exist, and how he could make use of whatever this source of power is.”A devastatingly beautiful story, that will have you wanting to strangle some characters a few times, and an ending that will probably have you gasping and wanting to physically harm a specific character in a way you never thought before! So Kolis was creating an army of mortals controlled by hunger? Unnerved, I squeezed my knees until I felt the bones beneath my fingers. “That can’t be possible.” The chemistry between Sera and Ash is so good (not surprising) and I really enjoyed the progression of their relationship in this book. I like that we still get to see them growing as individuals and as a duo – and how things aren’t always easy or straight forward. That they have to learn acceptance for themselves and for each other. It’s interesting how things seem so easy between the two of them, but at the same time, so difficult. The way they play each other, entice and goad each other – it’s so much fun and omfg I know it’s bad to be jealous of fictional characters, but…👀
