Here’s a book that takes on cyberbullying and cliques. When students begin teasing classmates on Facebook, Lyla knows something needs to be done. This is one of our fave anti-bullying books for our increasingly digitally savvy students. But wait! Just when you thought the guys got to escape Tate's judgement because of their penises, she casts a withering glance over them and their stupid ways. Honestly, she is the most annoying character ever. "The girls had no other interests beside shopping and makeup and the guys here gave me the urge to sanitize my eyeballs after seeing the way they looked at me." For godsake, Ms Precious, go sanitize your eyeballs somewhere we don't have to hear you whining, here you go, use this acid. Ahhhh so many of us are not just fans of bad boys, but of book-guys that are absolutely horrid in the beginning. To us… er… I mean HER. You know why I think that is? ‘Cause it’s so much fun to uncover what makes him such a jerk in the first place, and also even more fun when the one person that we couldn’t stand (or that we feared most, in whatever way…), becomes our very best friend… and more.

Jared will be a hero that every reader will love to hate. I sure as hell did. But as much as I wanted to hate him, I can't deny that I was always wondering what was buried right below the surface to make him act the way he did because you just knew there had to be something. I have to say that Penelope Douglas did a phenomenal job with character development and that's what made the book as good as it was. The characters were multi-faceted and strongly developed. You get to know both of them as the story progresses and you also begin to understand both of them that much more. It’ll be fine, you’ll see.” She patted my leg. “Bryan invited Liam. Liam invited me, and I’m inviting you.” Her calm, flat tone did nothing to ease the tightness in my chest.Charlotte Carson is forced to move to Connecticut when her father receives a position as headmaster of Adamson All-Boys Academy. The board plans to modernize the academy by allowing girls in and they want to use Charlotte as the guinea pig. However, who wants to be the only girl at an all-boys school? Well, I guess some people would like that, but Charlotte would prefer not to be the only girl. We can all guess what that means. What I loved about this book was the level of introspection that Douglas manages to add to their stories. For me, I can't relate to a character unless I can get inside their head. I also find it hard to justify shitty behavior if they don't explain it as well. Tate's reactions to her treatment are complex and make sense given the circumstances. She's a well fleshed out character and I definitely wanted her to get what she wanted. As if reading my mind, K.C. responded, "And have you bury your face in your hands every time I don't launch myself through every yellow light? Not." Marjorie Baumgarten of The Austin Chronicle said, "The film's naked plenitude (and pulchritude) casts suspicion on Clark's ulterior reasons for making the movie -- especially in light of the fact that Bully doesn't seem to have an overall point of view that it's trying to push. There are no heroes or victims, and everyone is at least a minor villain. Clark's film is disturbing not only for what it shows, but how it shows it. If it weren't so rivetingly realistic, it would be an easy film to dismiss. And if it weren't so easily dismissible, it would be an easy film to defend." [31] Authors included in this work are R.L. Stine, Mo Willems, Ellen Hopkins, Lauren Oliver, and several dozen more. The book also includes tools for teens, parents, and educators for further reading. Books About Bullying

The book took me through a range of emotion and even left me teary in places seeing the friendship they'd once had, the hurt that was left over, the anger that was thrown around and the hearts that were left bruised. Eeeeep!!!! GAH!! Z is my ultimate book bully. But I have more to recommend (below + reader recommendations too!). Bobby emotionally and physically abuses Marty, who puts up with his violent tendencies. On one occasion, Bobby rapes Ali while trying to force her to watch gay pornography with him. Lisa later tells Marty that everyone suspects Bobby is attracted to him. Marty reveals to Lisa that the abuse has been going on since they were boys, starting with Marty taking drugs at an early age, which Marty thinks that Bobby has been using to take advantage of him. Marty and Bobby later go to a gay bar, where Marty is told to strip down to his underwear and dance for money, while Bobby takes pleasure in his humiliation. Lisa Marie Connelly - Second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Sentenced to life plus five years' imprisonment on July 21, 1995; reduced on appeal to 22 years. Released on February 3, 2004. [12] Lisa delivered her and Puccio's daughter in the Broward County Jail during her incarceration. [13] Schaefer, Stephen. "Two Very Different Teen Sex Films: Bully, Mexican Mother". ABC News . Retrieved April 29, 2023.Bully: The Fall Away Series by Penelope Douglas <— Kristina and (everyone!) recommend this one! (sidenote from Maryse: One of the most popular ones! I read it and loved it!! Here’s my review) Brenda: Tangled by Em Wolf. Such a great bully type book! Em Wolf just released another great book recently. 30 Days. Great too!

Fallen Too Far: A Rosemary Beach Novel (The Rosemary Beach Series Book 1) by Abbi Glines <— Stephanie reminds us of this one saying: “… her father moving her into his new wife’s house with the bully stepbrother.” Yes!! Everyone’s a bully in this one and I loved it. ( my review) While this was my second book by this author I believe it was the first one they ever wrote. And it definitely shows. If anything I am incredibly impressed in how their caliber of writing has changed over a 3 year span but this book had a lot of bad NA tropes. Namely, the attitude of Tate towards other females in the book. She becomes incredibly possessive of a guy she's not with and tears down her friend because of it. AND!!!!! She beats up another female out of jealous Another debut novel, The Art of Being Normal follows David (later called Kate), a young trans girl who is not yet out at school, but is still targeted by the class bullies for being different. The Art of Being Normal has been critiqued for showing trans perspectives through a cis lens despite the gender identity of the narrator, and it’s not an Own Voices book. However, it could be a useful tool for cis teens who are just beginning to learn about trans people, and the story’s representations of bullying and support from peers are great. The 18th Emergency by Betsy Byars a b Malanowski, Jamie (July 8, 2001). "FILM; Larry Clark, Moralist, In the Florida Suburbs". The New York Times . Retrieved April 28, 2023. The Peer and the Puppet (When Rivals Play Book 1) by B.B. Reid <— Jamie & Tessa (and more!!) loved this one!!Title cards reveal the convictions the perpetrators received in real life: Derek Kaufman, Donny Semenec, and Lisa Connelly received life sentences, Ali Willis received 40 years, Derek Dzvirko received 11 years, Heather Swallers received 7 years, and Marty Puccio was sentenced to death (The death penalty was vacated in 1997). Even when Tate figures that K.C. goes out with Jared for a time, I found it hard to believe Tate would turn a blind eye or feel guilty for distancing herself from a friend who would do that. Granted, I know the lot of us have different coping points and thresholds for forgiveness, but this narrative asked me one too many times to overlook some jarring conflicts in an attempt to see how the leading love interests "get together." It was milked and manufactured and I did not see the constructiveness of its portrayal here. Tessa: GAH! I can’t stop thinking about it, especially that ending. It doesn’t end on a CH, but it’s the end of her first year at the academy, but that end. Filthy Rich Boys: A High School Bully Romance (Rich Boys of Burberry Prep Book 1) by CM Stunich. If Grey read RH, I’d be pushing this book so much. The bullying and the story and then that ending. GAH! SOOOO GOOOD! a b c d Mottram, James (March 2002). "Daddy Cool". Sight & Sound.
