The first looks also seem to indicate the missions in the new Nephilim GT book are the same as the ones from Nachmund, below. Terrain Set-Ups & Explanation of Types: Retrieve Data (Action): One INFANTRY or BIKER unit from your army can start to perform this action at the end of your Movement phase if it is wholly within a table quarter that has not had a servo-skull retrieved by your army (see below) and it is more than 6" away from any other table quarter. This action is completed at the end of your turn provided the unit performing it is still within the same table quarter. If completed, roll one D6, subtracting 1 from the result if the unit that completed the action has the Troops Battlefield Role: if the result is less than or equal to the number of models currently in that unit, that table quarter is said to have had a servo-skull retrieved by your army and you add 1 to your Retrieved Data tally. Dynamic new rules for allocating and generating Command points, as well as changes to choosing Relics and Warlord Traits

If every unit from your army ( excluding T’AU AUXILIARY, SUPREME COMMANDER and UNALIGNED units) is from the same Sept, then at the start of the battle, when you have determined who has the first turn, you can select one of the Tactical Philosophies below. T’AU EMPIRE units (excluding T’AU AUXILIARY units) from your army gain the benefits of that Tactical Philosophy. If both players have a similar ability, the player who has the first turn chooses first. Chaos Space Marines are receiving lots of free or discounted wargear options for VEHICLES and Legionaries , with the intention of making these less-frequently taken units more appealing to players. Several missions have been updated to provide new challenges for experienced commanders – in particular, the timing on when you score Primary Objectives has been tweaked, making for a more even experience regardless of who won the roll to go first. Taken together, these two tools provide us with two different ways to keep each and every unit useful and competitive. We have explained the thinking behind the role of the Balance Dataslates in previous Metawatch articles – here are the key changes for the upcoming quarter.

Players familiar with Warhammer 40k will find new restrictions forcing them to adapt their tactics and army composition in Boarding Actions. For a start, there will be no models with the Vehicle or Monster keywords allowed, making this very much a game for infantry units.

At time of writing it’s not entirely clear if the Assassins actually have legal 9th edition rules (the supplement with their rules has an expiration date of January 2023). However their most recent rules have this ability:

Salamanders Warforged Strike Force

A small change to the rules regarding custom Dynasties means a Dynastic Code created with Eternal Conquerors – which grants Objective Secured – cannot also take an additional code from the Circumstances of Awakening. Among other combinations, this precludes a Necron army having both Objective Secured and a pre-game Normal Move from the Relentlessly Expansionist code. Which of the units from their army will start the battle embarked within TRANSPORT models (they must specify which units are embarked within which model). In an Arks of Omen: Grand Tournament mission, each unit from your army with the Dedicated Transport Battlefield Role must start the battle with one or more friendly models embarked within it, or it cannot be set up and will count as having been destroyed during the first battle round.

At the bottom of each player’s section there is space for you to add up the total victory points you have scored for primary objectives (a score out of 45), and the victory points you have scored for each secondary objective (each will be a score out of 15). Pre-FAQ Suggestion: It’s like that events will rule that all of these abilities/keywords are intended to work the same way especially for SUPREME COMMANDERS, and allow Shadowsun in Tau Armies that are not Tau Sept, and The Silent King in Necron armies that are not Szarekhan Dynasty. Sacred Grounds (Action): One or more ADEPTA SORORITAS INFANTRY or CULT IMPERIALIS PRIEST units from your army can start to perform this action at the end of your Movement phase. Each unit from your army that starts to perform this action must be within range of a different objective marker you control that has not been consecrated by your army (see below). The action is completed at the start of your next Command phase or at the end of the battle (whichever comes first). If completed, that objective marker is said to have been consecrated by your army, and until the end of the battle, that objective marker gains the Inspiring (Adeptus Ministorum) terrain trait (it is not considered to be a terrain feature for any other rules purposes). If a secondary objective is listed in one of the faction sections, it is a faction secondary objective and it can only be selected by a player if their Arks of Omen Detachment is a Detachment that matches the faction heading at the top of that list of secondary objectives. This one is all about destroying your enemy and grabbing as many objective markers as you can! Mission 9: You can include Commander Shadowsun in a Sept Detachment even if it is not a T’au Sept Detachment. Doing so does not prevent any other units in that Detachment from gaining their Detachment Rules. Note that Commander Shadowsun will only gain a Sept Tenet if every < SEPT> unit in your army has the T’AU SEPT keyword. By default, each player will use the following three secondary objectives during their Arks of Omen battle: Assassination; Grind Them Down; Behind Enemy Lines. However, each player can instead select up to three different secondary objectives to replace these. While the Munitorum Field Manual provides us with an opportunity to make changes to points values, the Balance Dataslate allows us to change keywords or abilities to bring individual datasheets in line with the ever-evolving metagame, and ensure there is a role for every unit in every army.
