The new Seiko 5 sports collection took the world by storm and introduced a large range of new watches. One of the watches in the model collection is the Seiko 5 Sports srpd51k1 automatic watch. This is an affordable yet durable model that won’t let you down, and can take a beating.

As a dive watch, it has a unidirectional rotating bezel. Specifically, the srpd51k1 has a blue aluminum bezel insert. The Seiko 5 was actually first released by the brand in 1963. As sports watches became more popular and people wanted watches that were suitable for swimming and handling harsh conditions and treatment. And on that note, let’s begin with the (inhale) Seiko 5 Sports SRPD51K1… “The case looks… decently-sized. And very familiar…”

“And speaking of the movement…”

There’s not a lot to dislike here. It’s highly legible, has moderate water resistance, great styling, and is eminently wearable. It’s not a go anywhere, do anything watch, but it can go most places and do most things. We understand the importance of sizing the length of your watch bracelet or strap to provide the perfect fit. Our simple to use watch sizing guide allows you to measure the size of your wrist from the comfort of your own home. The mechanism within the watch is 4R36 automatic movementwhich is built in house and the calibre is comprised of 24 Jewelsand a 41 hour power reserve. Seiko arrived in watchmaking with the mindset to create a special segment targeted towards the Japanese watchmaking industry. This mindset has led to various creations and has broadened the world of watchmaking with Asian ingenuity. To further expand its watchmaking expertise, Seiko launched the Seiko Sportsmatic 5 in 1963, making it the first self-winding watch in Japan. Inspired by the Sportsmatic 5, the Seiko 5 Sports collection was launched in 1968. Since the launch of the collection, Seiko has kept the design uniform with very few changes to its DNA.

Seiko SRPE51 Review: Classic SKX Touches, Modern Dress Watch Seiko SRPE51 Review: Classic SKX Touches, Modern Dress Watch

While the new Seikos are available on bracelet or a NATO strap, the SRPE51 comes with the former. The bracelet on the whole is quite jangly, unaided by hollow endlinks that don’t fit the watch perfectly. On the plus side, the sizing links are secured with simple split pins, making adjustments a snap. At the end of the day, I don’t need that much out of a bracelet, other than to size well and stay closed. This does both. And if you need more, I’m sure the aftermarket hordes will come out with some sturdier alternatives. While legibility is beyond reproach on this watch, for the sake of clarity and reading accuracy, the seconds hand should feature a more traditional lollipop, on the proper end, so when you’re reading the watch in the deep recesses of your parents basement after a 12-hour Fortnite marathon, you’ll be able to tell exactly what time it is, without confusion—or math. The silver stainless steel bracelet features a three link oyster style. The maximum bracelet setting is 23cm which can then be fastened using a fold over clasp. It also sits at a tidy lug width of 20mm which complements the 40mm case well. This bracelet is sure to catch to eye when glistening in the sun. The Dial: When purchasing a watch which has a metal bracelet with adjustable links, we will gladly adjust the watch bracelet to fit your wrist before sending the watch to you - free of charge! Stainless steel case and bracelet. The case measures at 40 mm in diameter. A three-fold clasp with push-button release secures the bracelet.

Home to a plethora of limited-edition timepieces, the Seiko 5 Sports collection is also brimming with brilliant collaborations. One such collaboration is with the streetwear brand, HUF. Launched with two iterations of the 5 Sports, the HUF Limited Edition is a vibrant addition to the collection. This is generally a very simple procedure. We can do this for you, or you can get the watch adjusted locally. Option 1. Specify your wrist measurement and we will adjust it before being sentThe case has a mineral crystal (Hardlex). No, it’s not a sapphire crystal, likely to keep the cost down, but the mineral crystal will do the job well also. It is placed in between a Sapphire crystal and a regular glass crystal. It won’t get scratches from regular usage, but if you accidentally hit it against a hard object, it will naturally be more prone to scratches than a sapphire crystal. If you require an extra large bracelet or you are in need of additional links these may be supplied at an additional cost. If it weren’t clear, I like the change—I love the change. I think it ties the case together: look at how the polished tops of the crown guards finally have a friend to play with, instead of some itinerant, everchanging rotation of numbers that always seem a little off.
