While many anthologies of love letters exist, a book reproducing actual love letters in the author's own hand has not previously been published and this book features letters from ancient Egypt to the present day. Katie Fforde's are always such a tonic to read - they're like wrapping up in a big snuggly duvet or curling up with a hot-water-bottle and a mug of hot chocolate. Together they remind us that there is simply nothing quite like receiving a personal handwritten note from the one you love.

Magical, lyrical and deeply romantic, Niall Williams' Four Letters of Love moved readers the world over and became an international bestseller. But, when he passes away at the age of ninety-five, he leaves behind more than just a heartbroken family. At that time there was some media comment about the likely reaction from the British ‘establishment’, but it must always be stressed that it is an entirely fictional story and is similar to the play Charles III which is simply a ‘what-if’ scenario. The hints of the personal lives of the royal family are an intimation of the privilege, but also of the restrictions these people face. I have never been married and have no kids, and I started reading Fforde when I was in my 20s myself, so my critique has little to do with the books having to relate to my personal experiences.

This book contains a selection of letters from the correspondence between Marcus Aurelius and his rhetoric teacher Fronto. That the collection included passionate love letters between Fronto and the future emperor Marcus Aurelius was politely ignored-or concealed.Fortunately, she avoids the London marriage mart by inventing a sweetheart, Captain Mackenzie, who is conveniently never around because he’s in the army.

You perambulate miles of galleries; skip endless treasures – chairs that Shakespeare might have sat on – tapestries, pictures, floors made of the halves of oaks [. Well, I can't say that yet, because I only read the first few pages of them, but after that I had to stop because they just weren't good books to read. I have to say that the reasons I am giving it 4 stars are not the same reasons why I normally give a book this rating. Tucked into a crook of the Norfolk coast lies Nelson’s Bar – an idyllic village where time seems to stand still.I also enjoyed the peek into the coming together of a literary fest with it’s entourage of harried organizers, demanding sponsors, frightening agents and nervous first-timers. Once together, break them up for a stupid reason and in the climax get them back together with all problems surmounted. So combine the two, and you’ve got heart-wrenching stories that make you realise what’s important, even if they do break your heart in the process. However, when handsome stranger Raff turns up with a handful of long-forgotten love letters, their quiet life is upended as family secrets from the past are unearthed.
