Escape: The Curse of the Temple is as much of an adrenaline rush as….well, actually escaping a collapsing cursed temple! Place the starting chamber in the center of the playing area, then place 2 randomly drawn chamber tiles next to it, as shown in the illustration below. Finally, take the top 4 tiles of the draw pile, shuffle them together with the exit tile, then place them on the bottom of the draw pile. It suits every kind of group. You can play it on your own (in which case you’ll roll 7 dice rather than 5), with your friends, with gamers and non-gamers or with your family. In fact, it’s one of the few games in my collection which will tempt my teen off his games console to play something with the family. The fact that it’s cooperative – you’re playing together to beat the game – is a bonus in a household like mine with competitive siblings. A green adventurer, which appears twice on the die – you need these to move from room to room, and to activate some gems.

Escape: The Curse of the Temple is a fantastic dice exploration game (or diceploration, if you want to go there). Its mechanics are well designed and laid out in an easy-to-understand way, which makes this an excellent family board game. Example: Frank is inside a chamber that has two entrances without an adjoining chamber. Therefore, he could discover two new cham- bers. In Escape: the Curse of the Temple, every player gets 5 dice of the color of their explorer. You must roll the dice to enter rooms, collect gems and help out your fellow explorers. I was looking for something that’s easy to learn, but still provides enough action and strategy to get our brains going while we have a good time. Different than other cooperative board games, you don’t have a lot of time to talk through options. While everyone rolls their dice and explores simultaneously and independently, players can benefit from being in the same rooms with one another. Whether that is to pool dice to get rid of more gems, or to save each other from the curse dice they roll, you’ll want to stay close.Example: Frank has managed to escape and gives one of his dice to Ani (red), who can use it immediately. To escape, you have to roll the number and one extra of ‘key’ symbols as there are magic gems left in the depot (i.e. if there were 5 gems left, you’d need to roll 6 keys to escape).

It is not complex. There are very few rules to master, and there is almost no grand strategic thinking. Just think about it like this:

These late additions, found only by the most persistent forum diggers, were nonetheless welcomed by the fans. But they didn't fix everything.

Some rooms enables full cooperation. There are 3 switches, and you may choose only one of them. If you gather 4 of the same required symbol, you may place 1 crystal on it. But then you may not use the other two switches. If you as a team get 7 of the same required symbol, you can place 2 crystals on it. The last requires 10 symbols, but lets you place 3 crystals on it. Imagine 3 out of 11 total, just in one room! With the expansion within the basic game it’s possible to add helpful treasures (yay … easier) and nasty curses (grrrr .. harder) to change the gameplay a little and in my opinion … make the game a lot harder. Players must reach this decision unanimously! A turn of fate can be provoked only twice during the course of the game. Exception: If you are playing alone or with a second player, insert the exit tile in the middle of the draw pile. The dice rolling mechanic is NOT just chance, you have to think twice and use strategy to cooperate with other players.

Even though there are other cooperative board games that my group likes a bit more than Escape, it will definitely be staying in our collection since it works great as a filler game and it is one of the better cooperative family games out there. It also works quite well as a two-player game. The final gong signals that the temple is about to collapse. If any of the players fail to escape before time runs out, it’s game over for everybody… ‘Curses’ and ‘Treasures’ Expansions

Soul Chest Script: Harry Bo21 (Lilrifa, Yen466, Madgaz, Yen, Easyskanka, ProRevenge, DTZxPorter, Zeroy, StevieWonder87, BluntStuffy, RedSpace200, thezombieproject, Smasher248, JiffyNoodles, MZSlayer, AndyWhelen, HitmanVere, ProGamerzFTW, Scobalula, GerardS0406, PCModder, IperBreach, TomBMX, Treyarch and Activision, AllModz) Escape: The Curse of the Temple is a real time game in which you and your fellow players have 10 minutes to escape a cursed temple before it collapses. You’ll achieve this by rolling your five dice, which will enable you to discover and explore the temple chamber by chamber. You’ll activate magic gems to break the temple’s curse and then find the exit chamber and escape. My favourite part of this game that makes it pretty unique is the fact that there are no turns. Players will participate in ‘one big turn’ simultaneously and constantly for 10 minutes. Your goal is to escape the cursed temple. To do this you must ALL make your way to the exit tile with all the gems from the “gem depot” placed on their magic altars.
