Description

What about in practice? While we didn’t have an X100F to compare it to, the X100V certainly offers great sharpness in the centre of its images, even when you shoot wide open. One of our main complaints with the X100F was that its photos tended to be a touch soft when shooting at f/2, particularly if you were close to your subject. This often meant stopping down to f/2.8 or f/4. FUJIFILM XApp” is the advanced application software for the current one, “FUJIFILM Camera Remote”, with which wireless communication becomes more stable and faster so that images and movies transportation from the camera becomes more smooth and comfortable with the smartphone and tablet terminal. A key feature on the new X100V is the rear touchscreen display which can now be tilted. (Image credit: Rod Lawton/Digital Camera World) Key features

Resetting the SETUP menu makes the “AUTO POWER OFF TEMP.” option changed to the “STANDARD” mode. If you want to take a movie longer, change the setting to the HIGH” mode. One of Fujifilm’s strengths has long been the quality of its out-of-camera JPEGs and it’s the same with the X100V –shots have pleasing, accurate color rendition and reliable exposure. You also get the full array of ‘Film Simulations’, which simulate the look of the company’s range of analogue films. The X100V supports Fujifilm's touchscreen gestures – which let you swipe in one of four directions to bring up menus – but you can't do this while wearing gloves. Still, the ‘Q’ button does compensate to an extent, and more personal preference than anything close to a deal-breaker. Designed for street and documentary photographers who need a compact, lightweight, and responsive camera, the FUJIFILM X100V harnesses its 26.1-megapixel X-Trans CMOS 4, X-Processor 4 image processor and a newly designed 23mmF2 fixed lens to provide superb image quality, superfast autofocus performance and shooting speeds up to 11fps. It’s a combination that lets photographers capture fleeting moments in amazing detail.

We were spoiled when Fujifilm brought us the Fujifilm X100F, but when it comes to this newer model, Fujifilm have smashed it out the park. The X100V model builds off the excellent body of its predecessor and improves on it by incorporating a larger and more powerful 26.1 MP X-Trans CMOS 4 Image Sensor that offers an ISO range from 160 to 12800 (Expandable from 80 to 51200). The integrated fixed 23mm F2 lens is constructed from 8 elements in 6 groups, including 2 aspherical elements. It features a 9-bladed aperture diaphragm that can produce smooth and attractive bokeh. Other features include Fujifilm's advanced hybrid viewfinder, a 3" tilting LCD touchscreen and the capacity to capture some stunning 4K video. This compact, yet rugged camera is truly versatile and will not fail to impress! The X100V isn’t the obvious choice for a video camera, but how does it fare with moving pictures? Well, it’s actually very capable for video, both in terms of quality and features, though this is counterbalanced by some inevitable practical limitations. Unlike its predecessor, the Fujifilm X100F, the X100V is capable of utilising its newer and more powerful sensor to capture some stunning 4K video footage. This camera has a variety of shooting modes that will cater to any amateur or pro videography alike. Fixed 23mm F2 Lens The fifth iteration in Fujifilm’s X100 Series, the X100V is a significant upgrade over previous models and features a newly designed 23mmF2 lens, improvements to its Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder, weather resistance, and a new tilting rear LCD monitor among a host of other updates. Using the latest generation X-Trans TM CMOS 4 sensor and X-Processor 4, the X100V provides all creatives from professionals to everyday image makers with an easy to use, fully capable, and sophisticated tool that provides incredible image quality when shooting both stills and video. A design first approach for an image first mind There is some distortion in the OVF mode, but that’s soon forgotten – and what we do like is that you can see what’s happening outside the frame and anticipate fast-moving subjects much more easily. The hybrid electronic/optical display also means you get much more shooting information around the edges of the framing guide that you do with a conventional optical ‘finder.

The FujifilmX100V's offers the ability to record 4K video up to 30 frames per second or capture 120 frames per second at 1080p to create super slow-motion effects. Filmmakers needing extreme colour fidelity can record 10-bit, 4:2:2 colour externally via the HDMI port and leverage Fujifilm’s advanced colour reproduction technology, to apply Film Simulations, like ETERNA, to their video footage. Additionally, image makers can also incorporate numerous shooting functions, such as “monochromatic Colour” and “Colour Chrome Effect” to extend their creative visions directly to the footage being recorded. Why We Love the Fujifilm X100V Looking to upgrade your equipment? Get competitive prices on major brands with our part-exchange service. There are a few annoyances for video shooters. First, there's just a single UHS-I card slot, and changing both the memory card and the battery means you have to unmount the camera from any tripod or gimbal plate. This is a factor because this camera has neither in-body nor in-lens stabilization, making a tripod or gimbal a pretty important accessory.

We compared the X100V to rival fixed lens APS-C compact cameras including the Canon G1 X Mark III and Ricoh GR III. But for the same money as the X100V there's no shortage of capable compact system cameras available, which in the case of the Olympus OM-D E-M5 III can be fitted with an equally svelte lens.

Expanded Fujifilm X100V Digital Camera Key Features:

If that sounds like you, then there’s a lot to love here. The X100V’s tilting screen makes it more versatile than any of its predecessors, its new lens and sensor combination produces excellent images, and it’s weather-proof if you’re either careful or use it with a filter. Beyond all of this, it’s just incredibly fun to shoot with. The Q button the X100V is surprisingly small, and located on the far right side of the body where your thumb rests. It’s not that easy to find by touch, but it’s likely you’ll soon get used to its position. You also have to hunt around to find the focus mode switch, which is in an unusual position on the left side of the body. The X100V comes with a handy USB-C charging port, meaning you don’t need to carry as many battery chargers and cables to suit various electronic equipment whilst travelling. Added Extras Using the latest generation X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor and X-Processor 4, the X100V provides all creatives from professionals to everyday image makers with an easy to use, fully capable, and sophisticated tool that provides incredible image quality when shooting both stills and video.

The X100V has Fujifilm’s latest 26.1MP X-Trans IV APS-C sensor, which is the same as the one in the X-Pro3 and X-T4 – and it produces similarly excellent results.

Precaution

It’s also possible to attach an optional AR-X100 adapter ring and the PRF-49 protection filter to make the camera weather-resistant. We’re told that the camera is largely weather-resistant already, and it’s just the lens needs the extra protection. (Fujifilm says that making the lens weather resistant too would have made it too bulky for this camera’s slim design.)
