Description

Self-Involved: If you dwell on your problems and just can’t stop, a walk through a meadow might put the brakes on the thought train circling through your head. It is about restoring our place in a natural network that is both staggeringly complex and beautifully simple. She encourages this life-giving contact, underlining the care foragers must give to not depleting the plants they take. She loses considerable weight in the year, and reflects on the hormones of leptin and ghrelin that suppress or increase appetite, in a healthy way for hunter gatherers, but not for us today. Her curious mind helps to set small seeds that will grow inside, moving you back to the wild human you didn't realise you've always been longing to become.

‎The Wilderness Cure on Apple Books

Predominately a diary of how the author lived for a year consuming wild food that she foraged and bartered for with friends and neighbours but there are a few personal anecdotes in the book that provide humour and entertainment. THE WILDERNESS CURE is a timely and inspiring memoir that explores a deeper relationship between humans and nature, and reminds us of the important lessons we’ve forgotten from our past. The points she makes are well-considered and 100% relevant to the current state of the globe and how we live on it today, and tomorrow. The author tells you at the start that she begins her project in late Autumn and that she should perhaps have waited because she had not prepared as well as she could .This is a fascinating book describing an alternative way of life that will either have you wanting to try some of the ideas, or else be very grateful for the work of farmers and availability of convenience food. Attempting such an undertaking felt really bold and the author’s description of it is really compelling in places. I feel like you can only to be in your sixties and retired for this kind of lifestyle though, because otherwise you wouldn’t have any time left to also do your job. Spending time in nature can help relieve stress and anxiety, improve your mood, and boost feelings of happiness and wellbeing.

The Wilderness Cure by Mo Wilde | Goodreads

Nature provides trees that were hundreds of years old before you were even born, towering mountains that touch the clouds and a sky full of uncountable stars. In 1995 I met my friend Dee Atkinson, one of the UK’s leading medical herbalists, who was running Napiers at the time and needed some labels and literature designed. However, too much of it was taken up of descriptions of her meat, squirrel and fish eating for my taste. Disconnected: One of the most basic human needs is to feel that you belong and you’re part of a larger tribe.

The Wilderness Cure - Mo Wilde The Wilderness Cure - Mo Wilde

THE WILDERNESS CURE is a diary of a wild experiment; a timely and inspiring memoir which explores a deeper relationship between humans and nature, and reminds us of the important lost lessons from our past. I made notes on – or as I read it on Kindle, I highlighted - all the information on what is edible and what it is for.

Whilst reading the book it made you appreciate the food we have and also makes you think differently about food and what I was wasting. It's all very interesting musing - picturing our ancestor's hunting grounds as a daisy really helped me grasp it - and I'm fascinated that she did manage to forage enough to keep alive and healthy.

About Monica - Mo Wilde About Monica - Mo Wilde

I know nothing about foraging and herbalism, but Mo Wilde's respectful and gentle approach to nature and its gifts has inspired me to learn about plants and their magic. She teaches foraging, but had been mulling over the efficacy of living entirely off the land for the whole year. I wouThe effect of “green exercise” on state anxiety and the role of exercise duration, intensity, and greenness: A quasi-experimental study. The journal style made the experience feel very immediate and I loved to travel through each day and season with her. These include: squirrel marinaded in sea buckthorn juice and wild raspberry vinegar; acorn and chestnut flours used for batter and biscuits; vinaigrette of elderberry vinegar and birch sap syrup; haw ketchup, sea arrowgrass and Few-flowered leek tarts, with shells made of acorn and chestnut flour bound with deer fat. As my school careers advisor never mentioned that you could actually study to be a Medical Herbalist, I went off the art college.
