Description

Marcia William's introduction to Greek mythology is wonderfully illustrated and bursting with color, its stories of gods and heroes are fun, like The 12 Tasks of Hercules, and some are genuinely sad, like the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. It is good that Theseus killed the minotaur so that the people of Athens could stop being given to him for food. Read more about the condition Very Good: A book that has been read and does not look new, but is in excellent condition. Each page flows in lines of the comic strip with a written narrative underneath each strip and within the frames bubbles are used to emphasize the story and generally add silly humour to the character's reactions to what is going on around them. This dramatic, lovingly-illustrated comic-strip version of the Greek myths fuses incredible tales of heroism and tragedy with humorous, detailed artwork that will always stick in your mind.

Consideration of Instructional Application: This book, as I said, would be great for introducing graphic novels to children. The stories have been summarised and written in language which is simple and more accessible for children. The violence is there though only shown with a drip of blood here and there and obviously dead bodies; this may be an issue with some parents. The artist also found pleasure in creating CHARLES DICKENS AND FRIENDS, which presents five retellings of classic Dickens tales. Curriculum Connection: I would offer this book to the class after the basics of Greek mythology were addressed. Readers, from reluctant to eager, will be attracted by the colorful illustrations, the artistry, and the wit with which Ms. The comic strip style appeals to us because it has lots of detailed pictures as well as short pieces of writing to tell the story. Marcia Williams retells the stories of Pandora and her little box of horrors, and Perseus the Gorgon slayer in her distinctive, witty and accessible style.Change country: -Select- Albania Algeria American Samoa Andorra Angola Anguilla Antigua and Barbuda Argentina Armenia Aruba Azerbaijan Republic Bahamas Bahrain Bangladesh Barbados Belgium Belize Benin Bermuda Bhutan Bolivia Bosnia and Herzegovina Botswana Brazil British Virgin Islands Brunei Darussalam Bulgaria Burkina Faso Burundi Cambodia Cameroon Cape Verde Islands Cayman Islands Central African Republic Chad Chile China Colombia Comoros Cook Islands Costa Rica Cyprus Czech Republic Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) Democratic Republic of the Congo Denmark Djibouti Dominica Dominican Republic Ecuador Egypt El Salvador Equatorial Guinea Eritrea Estonia Ethiopia Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) Fiji Finland French Guiana French Polynesia Gabon Republic Gambia Georgia Ghana Gibraltar Greece Greenland Grenada Guadeloupe Guam Guatemala Guernsey Guinea Guinea-Bissau Guyana Haiti Honduras Hong Kong Hungary Iceland India Indonesia Iraq Israel Jamaica Japan Jersey Jordan Kazakhstan Kenya Kiribati Kuwait Kyrgyzstan Laos Latvia Lebanon Lesotho Liberia Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg Macau Macedonia Madagascar Malawi Malaysia Maldives Mali Malta Marshall Islands Martinique Mauritania Mauritius Mayotte Mexico Micronesia Moldova Monaco Mongolia Montenegro Montserrat Morocco Mozambique Namibia Nepal Netherlands Netherlands Antilles New Caledonia New Zealand Nicaragua Niger Nigeria Niue Norway Oman Pakistan Palau Panama Papua New Guinea Paraguay Peru Philippines Poland Portugal Puerto Rico Qatar Republic of Croatia Republic of the Congo Reunion Romania Rwanda Saint Helena Saint Kitts-Nevis Saint Lucia Saint Pierre and Miquelon Saint Vincent and the Grenadines San Marino Saudi Arabia Senegal Serbia Seychelles Sierra Leone Singapore Slovakia Slovenia Solomon Islands South Africa South Korea Sri Lanka Suriname Svalbard and Jan Mayen Swaziland Sweden Taiwan Tajikistan Tanzania Thailand Togo Tonga Trinidad and Tobago Tunisia Turkey Turkmenistan Turks and Caicos Islands Tuvalu Uganda United Arab Emirates United Kingdom Uruguay Uzbekistan Vanuatu Vatican City State Venezuela Vietnam Virgin Islands (U. In the ‘Twelve Tasks of Heracles’ the comic strip medium is shown to particular advantage – the tasks are described in the text and the way Heracles tackles them is shown in the pictures. On the same page, Perseus is shown looking on younger versions of himself and remarks “Did I really look like that? The book is nice and 100% readable, but the book has visible wear which may include stains, scuffs, scratches, folded edges, sticker glue, highlighting, notes, and worn corners.
