Description

The 4th edition features a new section on argument mapping techniques, which help readers to visualize the structures of an argument. This easy to follow, step-by step guide to developing reasoning skills even applies the techniques to tasks such as reading, note-taking, and writing. A complex subject is broken down into easy to understand blocks, with clear explanations, good examples, and plenty of activities to develop understanding at each stage. Moreover, the book also enables the reader to assess their own skills which can be quite useful for writing arguments and identifying the possible flaws in the same.

I'm planning to undertake a dissertation - this book was recommended as background material for better analysis of what is required for the project work. I like the fact that the book has lots of activities and tests for you to complete, so that you aren't just being bombarded by lots of information. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH).The book effectively clarifies what critical thinking is and how it is used in academic reading, writing and note-taking. I read this for my Commentary of texts class and, even though it has provided me with more information, I thought it would be more centered in the analysis of literary texts, which is not. Essential for students who are mystified by tutor comments such as 'more critical analysis needed', this is an invaluable tool for anyone wishing to develop advanced skills in this area and learn to apply them to tasks such as reading, writing and note-taking. The book is also just as firm and sound with the development of writing skills, and though this rating is not my best writing; please do not let get past you as this book is an excellent, excellent purchase. All in all, this book is an excellent source to deepen your understanding, reinforce your learning, and develop the skill to read between lines; not to forget effective note-making.

No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. Once you have downloaded the app, your eBook will be available on your Kortext digital bookshelf and can even be downloaded to view offline anytime, anywhere, helping you learn without limits. Clarity, consistency and structure -- Reading between the lines: recognising underlying assumptions and implicit arguments -- Does it add up? The main thing this helped with was my BMAT section 1 where I instantly saw my marks skyrocket once armed with the knowledge from this book. Her other titles include The Study Skills Handbook, Critical Thinking Skills, Skills for Success, The Macmillan Student Planner, The Exam Skills Handbook and Mindfulness for Students.

I have such claim for three reasons: firstly, it has been helping me to realise that their is another way of thinking other than the 'traditional? Used books have different signs of use and might not include supplemental materials such as CDs, Dvds, Access Codes, charts or any other extra material. Written by internationally renowned author Stella Cottrell, this is an essential resource for students looking to refine their thinking, reading and writing skills. Dust Jackets are not guaranteed and when still present, they will have various degrees of tear and damage.

Critical thinking includes the component skills of analyzing arguments, making inferences using inductive or deductive reasoning, judging or evaluating, and making decisions or solving problems. Only thing that I disagree with the author is that early on the book, the author insist on being non-emotional while accessing an argument. Stella was formerly Director of Lifelong Learning at the University of Leeds, and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Learning and Teaching at the University of East London. The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged. It also contains new and updated examples that link to current affairs, showing the importance of critical thinking as a lifelong skill. There are 'test yourself' at the end of each section/chapter which are great for you to get an overall sense of how well you understood each particular topic. The book is an instructive source for those who want to ameliorate their writing skills ( for eg, writing an essay) in analytical ways. This book helped me immensely with my critical thinking skills, so much so I can see the benefits in other parts of my education. This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees. I found that a lot of it was really just common sense, but the book spells out what common sense actually is in the context of responding to written arguments, which is helpful and made me realise quite how much is involved in a process that I previously took for granted.
