Some of the character’s motivations remain murky, the flashbacks aren’t as effective as Use of Weapons, and the complex plot is tough to keep track off but Banks’s imagination and pitch black humor makes it worth it. In a way the whole setting, always rising forward to crash in nuclear war and lose most technology is mirrored in the characters.

The shoes she'd been carrying dropped from her fingers to the cobblestones; she hopped on top of the shoes, lost her footing, and fell with a yelp into the luminous bushes. It starts with a bang, and ends with a bang so big it can barely fit on the page, but I found the middle to be very draggy. There is, however, a waitlist of nearly a century to receive a new body, since the construction of new androids has been banned for centuries since they're one of many ways Golter has gone to war with itself. It had a few moments of brilliance, and some really great ideas (the solipsists especially were fantastic), but it just went on and on and on with diversions and then ended, never adequately pulling itself together. Science Fiction and Fantasy is becoming increasingly popular within mainstream readership and Orbit is at the forefront of the action, staff in hand.

She lay in the shrubbery, cradled on her back by the creaking branches and surrounded by gently glowing leaves. Psychic Link: Sharrow and the rest of her combat squadron (originally eight) were linked together with a synchroneurobonding (SNB) virus.Actually, read everything, although "non-M" part of his opus have more slightly weaker (for Banks) titles than the "M" part. She turned from looking at the child, the wide smile still on her face, then nodded, her expression becoming more serious and her gaze falling briefly to the floor of the cable car.

Through all this passes Sharrow - hunted by religious extremists and looking for the legendary last Lazy Gun. maybe the Solipsists have a point worth more careful consideration, at least if we took on solipsism more as a non-dualism that breaks down the barriers between us. It is just so busy and at times rather silly, with strange tech and events right and left, so much so that I was just scratching my head, trying to figure out where this was going. A "Useless King" that spends money excessively on useless things to avoid too much technological advancement in his country. Sharrow stops using her brain and just opens up the vault to the Lazy Gun, despite this obviously playing right into the hands of her enemies.

The little girl skipped along the floor as they walked towards the exit, swinging this way and that on her mother's arm. In a nutshell, several thousands of years ago, a machine/AI enclave in the star system build eight 'lazy guns'. After they are taken captive Sharrow and Feril cause the Lazy Gun to begin firing uncontrollably and the Seahouse is destroyed, with Feril still inside it.
