One of the great pleasures of collecting comics is being around when 'event books' are released,” added McFarlane. “Each time one of these events happened I was always glad I was collecting at that moment because I felt like I was part of something really cool happening in our comic industry. So now, to be able to gather DC Comics and Image Comics together to release a new reprint of those two wonderful books from yesteryear; SPAWN/BATMAN and the BATMAN/SPAWN: WAR DEVIL crossovers to a new generation of collectors who missed out on all the excitement of when they first came out. This, to me, is why I got into drawing comic books in the first place...to have as much fun and joy as I could. These books do that!" a b c Johnston, Rich (21 July 2023). To be clear, I don’t mind “edgy”, and I don’t mind dark themes in stories, but there’s a limit, and a moment when to have it. Miller simply disposes of a generic-stereotypical character to perform the role of Batman, almost as an excuse to have the two characters fighting each other just to make some cool panels, which leads me to my second issue: the art. McFarlane is, perhaps, one of the most emblematic artists that came out of the 90s, and his career only proved how much of an effective business man he is by exploiting his properties with such success, but when it comes to his artistic qualities, the guy is a hit and miss. Yes, he has crafted such iconic and memorable pieces of artwork for stuff such as ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘The Incredible Hulk’, and the first volumes in the ongoing ‘Spawn’ main series has some interesting designs that hasn’t aged that poorly, but other than that, his art only works as a reference, just to have way better artists continue his legacy. Two of the better ones that came to my mind are Greg Capullo, and Angel Medina, who had easily worked in the better arcs of the ‘Spawn’ series, or at least, in the better ones visually speaking.

McFarlane gets to jam with a buddy and use his knowledge of what really matters to fans to push out another banger of a comic. “To me, all this is easy stuff,” he says. “Would doing a Batman Spawn book with Greg Capullo be cool? Yeah. Is it going to look awesome? Yeah. Is Greg having a good time? Yeah. Will the fans dig it? Yeah.” Given their different tactics and ways of dealing with threats, it's obvious that Spawn and Batman wouldn't get along whatsoever. Spawn/Batman makes this obvious, but does so in a way that feels more natural than Batman's antagonism toward Superman whenever Miller writes the former. It's also, as mentioned, the very essence of crossover storylines between divergent franchises or characters in which they fight before "making up" in the end. Beyond this singular existence, the book would also continue to influence both properties. The scar on Spawn's face in subsequent issues of the main Spawn comic book is believed by many to have been inflicted by Batman's Batarang (though it was more likely done by Harry Houdini in another issue). Immortality (to an extent, powers drain when used and full drainage of powers results in a second death) After washing herself in virgin's blood, Morana bonds with the uniform and gets ready to consume her parents' souls. Cyan taps into her powers and goes to the future. She talks with an old woman who gives her a message for Al. Returning, she has Spawn summon the last twelve members of the Legion, who are beaten by Morana. Mammon insults Al and disowns Morana. Cyan tells Nyx a spell to trap Mammon and Morana. It works, both demons are sealed away, and the others return home. Al jumps into another dimension to be reborn as a weapon against both heaven and hell. After reuniting with Sara and telling him about his transformation, Jim wanders off again and meets Wanda Blake, Al Simmons' ex-wife. She recognizes Jim as the form Al took when he originally returned to earth.

There, Spawn speaks with Wanda, who cannot forgive Al for the death of their child. However, she still loves the man inside Spawn. Trying to take out Cyan's knife, Spawn somehow suppresses the suit. Cyan and Nyx appear, and K7-Leetha appears and takes over Nyx. Now controlled by the K7, Nyx tries to kill Cyan and Wanda but is halted by Mammon. The entire group goes to a castle, where Mammon explains his plan to make a perfect Hellspawn. He wants the Rapture to occur so Satan, God, and Malebolgia will be gone. He reveals his perfect Hellspawn is Al and Wanda's miscarried child, Morana. If you asked me to lay out my perfect scenario for this, that's it. My list [for this] is Greg and then nobody. There are plenty of great artists, that's not a slight on anybody, but it wouldn't have had the impact that I think it'll have. It's why this book will matter because [of] Greg's mark on two characters drawn together, and he made his mark on one of those characters with me, and I'm involved with this, and I've done some stuff with Batman. It keeps going into this infinity loop of us doing it.

He has to eat a piece of Forbidden Fruit from the Garden of Eden to gain such power. She tells Spawn must fight against The Disciple. It is revealed there are 12 Disciples, each one representing one of Jesus. Spawn's power is also weakened because demons cannot enter the Garden. However, with guidance from Cyan, he defeats every Disciple but Judas, who Cyan tells Spawn not to kill. Judas then stabs Cyan in the heart but the Mother gives Spawn a piece of the fruit and resurrects him. He gains an angelic form and greater power. Todd McFarlane here....Unedited and Uncensored!
