Description

A thermostatic radiator valve allows you to set a radiator at a different temperature, so you can heat your home only where required. This can help reduce your home's energy consumption. The additional 8 Smart Thermostats allow even more control of your home climate by setting the right temperature, at the right time, in every room or zone. They will help save even more on your heating costs through the Multi-Room control which allows you to change additional rooms and zones individually. You can manage all zones in the tado° app for a clear overview. For our test we went with a complete Tado installation consisting of a central Smart Thermostat aided by four Smart Radiator Thermostats. This would ensure that the upstairs rooms (which tend to be a lot colder than the rest of the flat) could be heated in line with the rest of the building.

Early Start is useful, as it means that your boiler starts earlier to get your home to the right temperature for the start of a scheduled change. That means that if you set your temperature to be 19ºC at 8am, it will be this temperature when you get up, as opposed to the boiler starting at 8am. You should buy it if… To connect the thermostat to the internet you need the internet bridge, which also makes the system compatible with Apple HomeKit. The internet bridge is USB powered and plugs into your router via Ethernet. It would be easier if the Smart Thermostat had Wi-Fi built-in, so that this extra component wasn’t needed. This review covers the V3+ version of the hardware and app, although many of the features are similar to the older version – although the older app’s layout is clunkier and harder to use. Since I first reviewed this system, Tado has updated its hardware and now sells a cheaper wireless temperature sensor to give more accurate room control. Design and installation Use multi-room control to schedule and control 8 rooms or areas with the tado° Smart Radiator ThermostatsWe were particularly impressed with the HomeKit integration, which is Apple’s smart home ecosystem. We set up an Elgato Eve Button to act as both a heating and lighting switch, so that we could instantly turn on both the (Tado-controlled) radiator and the ( Philips Hue-enabled) light when we entered into a room. A standard smart thermostat today, an system that gives you control over each radiator individually tomorrow, the Tado system can grow with you.

If using the valve itself you would need to make sure its connected to system and done its calibration. Then pop off the top ( taco sign) remove ribbon cable all with batteries inside. I'm playing around with dismantling a TRV and installing the circuit board into a small case and hopefully run it off a 3v coin cell if not a couple of AAA batteries. I've already have a spare TRV with its connections to the motor disconnected and it works perfectly fine as a temp and humidity sensor . While playing with all the bells and whistles of a smart heating system is fun, the real test is how much energy it saves you. In an ideal world you’d save enough energy using a system such as this to allow it to pay for itself, but we’re not quite at that point just yet.The basic tooling / blueprint, it would seem, is already there (granted updated circuitry and firmware most likely is required too) -- so Tado...why hasn't this been acted upon given there's clearly a demand for such an accessory??
