Keep piping all around the body, making sure to leave the light brown frosting of the ears, round belly and bottom paws visible. It’s best to make the accents out of gumpaste rather than fondant as it dries harder and is easier to work with. When I set them out to cool, they all looked something like this. I immediately saw a “bear” with little cupcake legs and ears. You probably don’t need the strips, but I didn’t want to take any chances on having trouble removing a cupcake since I needed all six for the bear shape.

Cut the reserved cake scraps in sections and use them to make a little bowtie. Pipe the sides using a Wilton #16 decorating tip while holding each piece between your fingers. Once the sides are piped, place the pieces in position and then continue piping until the rest of the cake is covered in blue buttercream. I highly recommend making the cake taller, so when you are creating the face of the teddy bear, it’s in portion to everything else.

This allows the feet to fit snuggly against the bear’s body. Then, we removed one of the cupcake tops and used the puffy section for our bear’s nose. This gives it a nice raised nose, that you can easily decorate. Push the 5- and 6-inch cake layers together to form the head and body. Place them on a large rectangular sturdy surface. You can use a baking sheet for instance. I used a rectangular heavy-duty cake board. I’m pretty thrilled with how this little teddy bear turned out. It’s the first time I’ve tried to make and decorate a three dimensional decorated cake like this, but I think he looks beary cute! Cut one of the chocolate wafers almost in half and attach it in position for the nose with a small amount of frosting. Pipe small dots on the eyes with some of the reserved vanilla buttercream.

Use food coloring to dye your vanilla buttercream as desired for your teddy bear cake. Some ideas include dying some frosting brown or tan for the fur of the teddy bear. Please do not throw any incorrect items as we may ask you to return it to us – we will, of course, cover the cost of your postage in these circumstances. For visual learners, like myself, I have also made a video tutorial that you can see here or keep scrolling to the end for easy watching!

My Books!

For the bear snout, I ended up piping a circular mound of the light brown frosting onto a sheet of wax paper and then used an offset spatula to help smooth it out. Place the mound of frosting in the freezer to firm up and you can use the spatula to help scrape and shape it even more.

His party was a special one – seeing how thrilled he was when those birthday candles were lit, and his eyes huge with excitement when his family and friends sang him Happy Birthday – I loved every second. He blew his candles out with gusto to a round of applause and high fives. My heart is full, blue bear cake was a hit and this casual times party mama is zonked! Happy happy 2nd birthday to my sweet little boy – I love you SO much! In this cake recipe, you need 1 cup buttermilk; if you don’t have any buttermilk on hand, you can easily use 1 cup whole milk mixed with 1 Tablespoon lemon juice or white vinegar to make your own. Once combined, add powdered sugar, salt, vanilla, and enough milk to make it moist. Mix together the mixture until your frosting comes together. When your entire teddy bear is covered, leaving the paws and part of the ears uncovered, it is time to add the face.Bear themed cakes are so adorable, and surprisingly not all that difficult to do on your own. There are a few different ways you can make bear cakes if you wish. We love this alternative gender reveal cake! Surprise friends and family with the baby’s gender revealed in icing inside the cake. It looks so impressive and it couldn’t be easier to make - real crowd pleaser! Hues of blue baby shower cake The above method walks you through how to make a teddy bear cake with cake pans you probably already have in your house. If you do not have these, and have to go out and buy something you could consider buying a teddy bear shaped cake pan.

What about you – do you go WILD TIMES on your kid’s or your own birthday parties, or do you try to keep it minimal? Leave me a link of a birthday party you’ve thrown – I love that stuff! xo Lyndsay To start creating the bear shape, use a sharp knife to remove a small curved portion from the larger 6-inch cake layer. Save the curved cake scrap for use later. In this cake recipe, you need 1 cup buttermilk; if you don't have any buttermilk on hand, you can easily use 1 cup whole milk mixed with 1 Tablespoon lemon juice or white vinegar to make your own.A single batch of this cake recipe makes three, 6-inch round cake layers or two 8-inch round cake layers. Double the cake recipe to make enough cake batter for three, 8-inch cake layers. Tint a small amount from the batch of vanilla buttercream with pink icing color for cheeks, another small amount with blue for a bowtie, and save a little of the vanilla buttercream for the eyes.
