When they get up the next morning, Benedict is gone from the Gamaches’ house, and never came home the night before. This starts as a small-town mystery and becomes something grander and more frightening; Penny has upped her thrills-to–pain au chocolat ratio. He was not reinstated as chief superintendent, but he was offered back his old job as head of homicide.

They find and, after a harrowing further collapse, manage to rescue Benedict, but not before they discover that someone else had been there, dead in the rubble. And though it may seem like Gamache has all the time in the world to dive into this dark history, his attention is in fact divided: The deadly opioid that slipped untraced into Montreal under Gamache's watch is expected to hit the streets any day—a most unsettling thought.

What were your worst fears for the characters, and how satisfying did you find the resolutions of their stories? And, as if the atmosphere alone weren’t macabre enough, the reason Gamache is freezing the pompoms off his French Canadian tuque in an approaching blizzard is because he’s been summoned there via letter by a solicitor he knows to be dead.

The will is so bizarre and includes such wildly unlikely bequests that Gamache suspects the woman was downright delusional. She earned the attention and distrust of the man who had the Carfentanil right away because she went about looking for him in such a forceful manner. She was pretty sure she had gotten this job because she was a woman and human resources had seen an opportunity to increase diversity. Only the dourest of minimalists will moan about Locke’s excess of decoration, and their complaints would be almost unfounded. In the midst of all the drama Penny doesn’t neglect the townspeople of Three Pines in all their irascible wit and charm.

Armand finds the girl in the red tuque and rescues her from a would-be attacker, then takes her to a diner and leaves her for Isabelle to pick up. Sydney thought someone had probably been messing with it, introducing bugs or maybe even writing some sort of virus. Before he died, it seems, Felix Vodyanov was linked to a passenger ferry that sank in 1994, an even earlier U.

The Kingdom of the Blind is a Big Finish Productions audio drama featuring Lisa Bowerman as Bernice Summerfield, a character from the spin-off media based on the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who. We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare. Finally, inside, they learn that they’ve been named as the executors of the will of a woman named Bertha Baumgartner, AKA the Baroness, whom none of them know, and they agree to go forward. Interrogations of his son-in-law, Guy de Beauvoir, who is now Chief Inspector of Homicide, suggests they are preparing to scapegoat Gamache, and Beauvoir has to decide whether he is going to save his own job or remain at the side of his father-in-law.

Moral duty has been synonymous with our hero, but Penny seems to be pushing her characters in new directions with this installment: “[Gamache] considered his options and the atrocity he was about to commit. I've always said I'd rather be lucky than good and I've gotten lucky finding two authors that wrote suspense mysteries back in the early 1900s in E.Tadjo currently lives in South Africa where she is Head of French Studies in the School of Literature and Language Studies, University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. SPOILERS That it was all a ploy and turned out to be a plan by Gamache and Amelia to find the drugs didn’t make it better END SPOILERS. Amelia is already there, trying to talk her way into the operation, but the man in charge doesn’t believe her, and doses her with the drug against her will.
