For someone new to italic nibs, the moderate flow will make writing more controlled so that’s a plus. I kept hearing great things about them and they are cheap so I ended up with four of them hoping to finally hit a winner. Your experiences ring familiar with others I have read and it’s the reason I haven’t tried one until now. I'm referring to the section, which seems to be made from some type of tough plastic but the thread which connects it to the barrel is, once again, brass. Nostalgia dictated that I give this pen another try, even though it didn't score perfectly in my original review.

Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. Both barrel and cap are made from a sparkly black lacquered overlay onto probably a brass base with chrome plated fittings. The converter is better constructed than the Jinhao and contains a silicone ball to keep ink flowing. The balance is good as long as you don't post the cap but if you do, most of the weight will be shifted to the top which makes it very awkward to hold. The nib unscrews This style seems to be one of the harder ones to get ink moving on for me, but doing so isn't overly difficult. The cap has Jinhao and X750 along with some scroll design going around the bottom of the cap as well. The pen is fantastic for the money and I was worried I might need micro mesh to smooth the Nib but it's fine. A second problem I had last time is I was so stubborn that I wasn’t willing to adapt my handwriting to a medium nib. In contrast, I have two Parker Sonnets, each one of them costing as much as my entire Chinese collection, and neither of these has a decent feed with one of them usually refusing to start for several minutes before it will give any ink.

If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments. jinhao nibs are great, the flow tends to be kind of inconsistent though, starting hyper wet and then getting dryer and dryer. I use mine with Carbon Black ink to address envelopes (it's waterproof), as it can be dismantled for cleaning. It’s a bit chatty but not squeaky and has a tiny bit of feedback though not enough to be distracting. I’m using the word hostile intentionally as during the week I was reviewing this pen I posted a picture of the nib on a group’s page on Facebook and the comments quickly turned to someone saying, “Only someone with the taste of an American could appreciate such a nib.The nibs that come with the "out of the box" Jinhaos have always worked OK for me, but I find them a little characterless.

It seems that the nib isn't sealed properly inside the cap, which causes the ink to dry and evaporate. I think it was in inner shoulders of the tines that were slightly exposed, as it seemed to want to tramline on strokes close to the vertical, and scratched on horizontal strokes.Just an average guy who reviews a variety of products such as fountain pens, tea, coffee, hairstyle products, writing, bags, everyday-carry, knives and whatever else I can find! On the other hand, this particular ink likes to flow really well so it's understandable that it performed well in the Jinhao. The grip is smooth black plastic with a rounded reinforcing ring at the end where the nib inserts into the grip. Both barrel and cap are made from a glossy black lacquer overlay onto probably a brass base with chrome plated fittings.
