Description

It didn’t really taste like hazelnut, and it’s bold to call it ‘Hazelnut Heaven’. A more appropriate name would be ‘Hazelnut Hint’, because every bite had me wishing for more flavour. With Veganuary 2023 upon us, and people taking part in New Year's fitness resolutions, many will be wanting to make sure they are getting enough protein in their plant-based diet. Growing research links meat consumption to several health and environmental issues, meaning more and more people are re-inventing their diets and making positive life changes. Swapping animal protein for plant protein has been hailed as the 'single biggest change' an individual can do to lessen their impact on the planet. There isn't as much protein peer serving in this one as seen in the other, but 18g is still a decent amount to boost your intake. If you’ve read up, you’ll know I think TPW make a really solid range of vegan protein powders. They mix well and they have a more exciting choice of flavours than your average chocolate, vanilla or something impersonating a strawberry.

Vegan Wondershake allows you to follow a vegan diet with zero compromise on taste. It delivers a multi-phased release of protein to fuel you whenever you need a protein boost – morning, noon, or night. Vegan Wondershake is high in protein, low in sugar and low in fat. Specifically, it provides 21g of premium plant-based protein per 89g serving, with just 0.6g of sugar and 0.7g of fat! The Protein Works suggests that the wonder involved in this shake comes from the smooth texture and great flavour. However, while there’s an impressive range of flavours to choose from – 10 in total including all the classics plus more interesting options like white chocolate peanut and chocolate mint brownie – it’s the nutritional stats that really make the Wondershake stand out. Secondly, the Foodspring Whey Protein mixes really well, even with water, so there is no need to invest in the most elaborate protein shakers to get an end-product that is not just slightly flavoured liquid sprinkled with little clumps of protein powder. This might not mean much to some, but a powder that dissolves easily is heaven-sent for people who consume protein shakes daily like me. Our multi award winning* Vegan Wondershake is the world’s first vegan protein shake that tastes just like a dairy shake. Seriously, it’s an absolute game changer: perfectly sweetened, velvety smooth, and deliciously creamy. This ritual means I’ve tried a fair few powders and this, combined with the hint of narcissism that comes with having your own blog, makes me think you’d care which ones I like.

Innermost's Health Protein Powder uses a powerful combination of pea and brown rice protein, making it perfectly suitable for vegans. Brown rice contains all nine essential amino acids, while pea protein is the closest plant-based protein to a complete amino acid profile. By combining both together and then enhancing it with antioxidant-rich berries and Japanese medicinal mushrooms, this vegan protein that has your health at its heart. Growing research links meat consumption to several health and environmental issues, meaning more and more people are re-inventing their diets and making positive life changes. Swapping animal protein for plant protein has been hailed as the ‘single biggest change’ an individual can do to lessen their impact on the planet. The British Heart Foundation says, "Most adults need around 0.75g of protein per kilo of body weight per day (for the average woman, this is 45g or 55g for men)." This is for people who don't exercise regularly, only 'exist'. Growing research links meat consumption to several health and environmental issues, meaning more and more people are reinventing their diets and turning to plant based protein sources.

Vegan protein powders have come a long way in recent years. By now, the best vegan protein powders closely resemble the taste and consistency of their whey counterparts—Opt in for more premium products to avoid disappointment (and feeling bloated). How to use protein powder? It’s smooth and mixes really well into oats – no lumps or graininess at all. Blended with just plain ol’ water it’s still as smooth as can be, but I definitely prefer it in oats to having it as a shake (but I rarely never have protein shakes, so that’s personal preference). As with all Protein Works products, Vegan Wondershake is GMO free. It is also gluten-free and, as you would expect with any vegan shake, it is dairy-free and lactose-free too. The My Protein Vegan Protein Blend is crazy low on carbs – only 0.5 gram per serving – and has no sugar in it at all. Like, zero amount. Suppose you are looking for a clean protein powder, whether whey or vegan; the My Protein Vegan Protein Blend won't disappoint. This vegan shake mix is keto friendly and bosts less than 1g of sugar and 5g of carbs per serving. It features over 20 vitamins and minerals including 20g of vegan protein from Peas, Cranberries and Rice.

Perfect for those keen to up their protein intake, this shake boasts 20g of plant-based protein per serving, along with fruits and botanicals like Baobab, Flax, Turmeric and Cinnamon. Made using our breakthrough Quadplant™ technology, Vegan Wondershake combines four types of protein sources: premium pea protein, brown rice protein, hemp protein, and soy protein, all to create the perfect plant-based protein blend that delivers on both nutrition and flavor. One imagines the product designers at Dioxyme as scientists and doctors in white lab coats, mixing different ingredients in vials, holding them up in the light to see how well they mixed. This is because every detail of Dioxyme products seems to be engineered to perfection: the ingredients, the nutritional profile, and the taste all working together in perfect harmony. It requires a more vigorous mix than some of the other powders featured on this list, but we did find it one of the easiest on the stomach, perhaps thanks to an additional digestive enzyme derived from pineapple. How to choose the best protein powder for you HANDS DOWN THE BEST PROTEIN POWDER EVER (vegan or non-vegan). It’s just incredible (and so underrated).

You’ll find various types of vegan protein powder that come from different foodstuffs. Typically, a blend is used to make sure all the vital amino acids that rebuild your muscles are present and correct. Proteins include soy, rice, hemp, pea, chia and seeds – so basically all the things that are frequently popular in everyday vegan diets. This is what makes the MyVegan Clear powder stand out so much, because it creates a light, refreshing shake that’s an absolute treat after a sweaty workout. There are four flavours, with the zesty pineapple and grapefruit perhaps being the standout. The protein count is low at 10g per shake, but the serving size is also small at 16g, so you can double up to get similar nutritional stats to what you’ll find in most other shakes. If you've been on the hunt for a vegan protein source for a while, one you might see frequenting lists is Form Nutrition. I didn’t try this mixed with milk or water, but I can’t imagine it would be any good. Speculation it may be, but I really don’t see a blender working it’s magic against the graininess of this powder – it’s that bad.A. If you don't burn the excess calories that come with the additional protein, it may lead to increased body fat. No other side effects have been noted. Then, the texture. It’s the old-style, gritty, grainy texture that most of us thought (*hoped) had been consigned to history. It doesn’t mix well, and I dread to think what it’s like blended with water…something akin to the dregs of a bad, limescale-loaded coffee. Watery, grainy and all-round unappealing When looking to invest, make sure you spend some time studying the nutritional information on the tub. Steer clear of added sugar, emulsifiers, chemical sweeteners and other nasties often included in cheaper products to bulk them out. FAQ How much protein do you need a day? Each 25-gram serving of the Organic Protein Company Whey Protein contains just under 20 grams of protein and only 0.6/1.3 grams of sugar and fat, respectively. This powder also mixes well and can be used with either milk or water, or you can go crazy and use it with porridge or even savoury stuff (the unflavoured variety is best for this purpose). With that out of the way, I present to you my favourite vegan protein powders, followed by three powders I thought were absolutely grim. Two of the grim ones happen to be non-vegan, but take from that what you will.
