Excellent and interesting history of Abbey Road and the recording of artists well before the Beatles in the 60s. As Hepworth's engrossing book comes to an end, he wistfully captures the image that greets tourists as they wind their way from the St. For me, the main and most interesting point to taker from the narrative is that the music that we have listened to and loved was the product of a combination of the artists themselves who supplied the vision of what they wanted to achieve, and the technicians and producers, without whom the sounds that we hear could not have been made reality.

Jacqueline du Pré, en usedvanlig begavet cellist som døde av multippel sklerose i en alder av 42 år. It may have begun life as an affluent suburban house, but it soon became a creative hub renowned around the world as a place where great music, ground-breaking sounds and unforgettable tunes were forged - nothing less than a witness to, and a key participant in, the history of popular music itself. Along with Mark Ellen and Alex Gold I'm running Word In Your Ear, which is all about events in "normal" times and is all about podcasts, videocasts and digital author events at the moment.

Always intrigued when one landmark can pull in greatness from all corners of the world, this book captures everything from the artists themselves to the engineers and the groundbreaking discoveries. Though the studio is, of course, synonymous with the legendary work of The Beatles and Pink Floyd, our history contains many lesser-known but equally special recordings from Paul Robeson, Fats Waller, The Hollies, Deep Purple, Cilla Black, Shirley Bassey, John Williams, Amy Winehouse, Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga, Massive Attack, Muse, Travis, Oasis, Nile Rodgers, Brockhampton, Adele, Little Simz, Sam Smith and many more. Hepworth traces the studio’s technological trajectory from 78 shellacs and vinyl LPs to audiotapes, CDs, and streaming. There is clearly a great respect for the engineers and background staff who helped make some of the world's greatest music. It's very recognisable, but doesn't lend itself so well to fact-based subjects, and as a result this doesn't come across as a definitive history of the famous studios.

It’s funny, I say to David: some things are like reverse alchemy; the more you see the base ingredients, the less you see the gold. It slightly loses steam in the latter chapters, but that's mainly because Abbey Road and the music business as a whole have similarly declined. Across the many line-ups over the years, we’ve seen the music for shorts, independents and box-office smashes pass through our . Her anecdotes are humorous, heartfelt, and supremely captivating, recounted with the passion of a true survivor and the acerbic wit of a weathered, street-wise New Yorker. I welcomed these sidebars and found it only appropriate to "hear" the inside story of Abbey Road in Hepworth's very British voice. These studios still exist and this book covers all the great bands and albums made there but also deals with the challenges along the way and the studios reinvention in the 21st century to embrace the modern Digital age and todays music. Hepworth uses sound recording and one legendary studio as a palette to capture this arc of systemic change, how it impacts everyone along the chain in different ways, and explored all of its attendant pluses and minuses, depending on your perspective. David Hepworth has developed a very distinctive style of writing, honed over years of writing music reviews and articles. We get lots of insights into the technology and science of recording music and the affection given to the studio’s engineers as the unsung heroes of the music world is heart-warming.

Highly recommended for anybody with an interest in the musical recording process and indeed anybody who has had the need to 'cross that bloody road with three mates'. He was involved in the launch and editing of magazines such as Smash Hits, Q, Mojo and The Word, among many others. While the Beatles play the major role in this detailed history (Sir Paul actually wrote the book's foreward) there are stories from an eclectic collection of other artists. But in his book, Abbey Road: the Inside Story of the World’s Most Famous Recording Studio, details such as this turn into the most fabulous of anecdotes.

You will come away dazzled by all of the dots Hepworth connects behind the scenes here, in what in many ways is the soundtrack of our lives. He is the radio columnist for the Saturday Guardian and a regular media correspondent for the newspaper. Telling the story of the infamous studios through the eyes of all those who have walked through its doors, and include much unpublished material. On September 10th I'll be talking to Mark Ellen about Abbey Road, the Beatles and more at the Chiswick Book Festival. The hardback is white with a black zebra crossing embossed on both front and back, and the spine has the title embossed onto a little road sign, too.uk will use the information you provide on this form to be in touch with you and to provide updates and marketing. The poetry (more accurately described as italicized notes-to-self with line breaks) remains strewn liberally through the pages, often summarizing the takeaway or the emotional impact of the events described: "I was / and still am / an exceptionally / easy target. Abbey Road Rewind rolls on as our cracking team of engineers share studio stories and highlights from last year plus their ones to watch for 2024.
