Outside the cover, the drone looks much more like the Air 2S; the legs are thinner and the vision sensors placed diagonally on the corners rather than glaring forward like those on the Mavic 2. The top and rear side vents offer a slightly aggressive posture though the spindly legs offset that. Measured with Mavic 3 flying at a constant speed of 32.4 kph in a windless environment at sea level until the battery reached 0%. Data is for reference only. Please pay attention to the RTH reminder on the DJI Fly app during flight.

DJI Mavic 3 Cine supports Apple ProRes 422 HQ, Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes 422 LT and H.264/H.265 encoding, while Mavic 3 only supports H.264/H.265 encoding. It was also a radical – and we do mean radical –change to the form factor. The Phantom style was ubiquitous at that point, so you can imagine just how revolutionary this was at the time. A phenomenal piece of engineering. An evolution While the Mavic 3 is an absolute powerhouse in terms of features and image quality, DJI is well-known for producing both safe and easy to fly drones and this drone, despite the high price tag, could present a fantastic option for first-time drone pilots. This is certainly a drone that you can grow into as your flight skills and requirements improve, and investing in a higher level model can ultimately save money over the long term because it can reduce the need to upgrade at a later date. Although for many, the DJI Mini 2 and Air 2S models provide compelling alternatives. Sensors are for noobs and more likely to get you into trouble thinking they are going to get you out of trouble, easier to stay out of it. There is no optical zoom lens either; operation of the zoom is through software and the system switches from one camera to the other at the appropriate moment, like a multi-lens mobile phone, though somewhat less fluidly. In Explorer Mode you typically tap through zoom multiples; 1x, 2x, 4x, 7x (the optical ratio of the zoom in comparison to the main one), 14x, 28x. Predictably the 28x option, dependant as it is on a lot of digital help, is not exactly sharp. Perhaps some softness would come from gimbal vibration at this zoom level, digital 28x isn’t going to provide the clarity a paparazzo might be hoping for.I'm also having a difficult time processing (no pun intended) the fact that DJI is offering up a digital zoom, versus an optical one, on such a pricey drone. What's even more perplexing is that the files can only be saved as JPEGs. Some professional photographers and videographers tend to delve into inspections and other industrial use cases. Why did the Mavic 2 Zoom offer up some optical capabilities while the Mavic 3 does not? Then there's a pertinent issue with the unique shape of the lens, though DJI may already have a solution for what's pointed out below. Our source didn’t have any info here, but it would seem likely DJI would continue with a Hasselblad camera on the new drone. It’s a premium offering, and this will be a premium prosumer drone.

But more than that, it was the beginning of a new way of thinking around form and function. The Mavic Pro was immensely more portable than the Phantom line, folding down to a really compact size. It also had better flight time, and a much smaller and innovative controller. And while that controller may look slightly dated now against the current crop (Mavic AIR 2, AIR 2S controllers), it was really compact, and got the job done. Branching out The Mavic 3's second camera is much more limited and can only shoot images in JPEG and standard video (not raw) at 4K 30fps. This hybrid camera only offers basic functionality and Auto shooting, with the ability to view distant scenes with ease. The DJI Mavic 3 Pro rumors were pretty much spot-on –this is DJI's first consumer drone with three cameras, making it an aerial companion with few peers when it comes to shooting versatility. Unobstructed and free of interference. Actual resolution may vary depending on the quality of the transmission signal.

Mavic 3 Pro is C2 certified, and Mavic 3 Classic is C1 certified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Measured in an outdoor, open environment, without interference, and with FCC compliance. The above data shows the farthest communication range for one-way, non-return flights. Pay attention to RTH reminders in the DJI Fly app during your flight. Actual available storage space may be reduced due to system configuration. For more details, see the Mavic 3 specs. The Mavic 3 Pro Series includes DJI’s first tri-camera flagship drones with multiple focal lengths. It uses the same wide-angle 4/3 CMOS Hasselblad camera as Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Classic. Compared with Mavic 3, it adds a 1/1.3-inch CMOS 70mm medium tele camera with 48MP effective pixels. It also has an upgraded 1/2-inch CMOS 166mm tele camera with 12MP effective pixels, providing more flexible aerial photography perspectives while enhancing creative efficiency and freedom.

The 70mm medium tele camera is equipped with a 1/1.3″ CMOS sensor. Compared with the wide-angle Hasselblad camera, the 70mm medium tele camera captures footage with a stronger sense of spatial compression, which can better capture the relationship between the subject and the surroundings, highlight the subject in a complex environment, and create a visual focus in the image or video. Additionally, the medium tele camera supports Night video mode (Night Shots), presenting brilliant nighttime scenes at a 70mm focal length. And while the AIR 2S does a really good job, professional cinematographers want more. The Pro versions

APAS 5.0 – the latest iteration of an autopilot system that automatically detects obstacles – will avoid them by creating a path around them. In the demo given to DPReview by DJI's team, the video shown to us demonstrating APAS 5.0 capabilities was recorded at a maximum resolution of 4K/30p. This is consistent with the Air 2S. If you went to 4K/60 or 120p, the feature will no longer work. DJI says it has updated APAS 5.0 to work properly in more complicated environments, including a congested city. This feature was not yet available for us to test in the beta version of the DJI Fly app.

The camera on the Mavic 3 performs extraordinarily well at night. There isn't any grain in this unedited image. With the Mavic 3 series, you can point the camera toward the sun and it will create a sunburst instead of blowing out and entire area. In addition, the Mavic 3 Pro Series also supports the Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution (HNCS), D-Log, D-Log M, HLG, and other color modes, which retain more image details and facilitate more efficient color grading in post-production.Supported by the DJI Mavic 3 Pro Hasselblad camera and 70mm medium tele camera only. The 70mm medium tele camera only supports shooting Sphere panoramas but cannot generate panorama photos. The above figure is for reference only. Due to different production batches, DJI provides two kinds of gimbal protectors that are slightly different in appearance. The two gimbal protectors have the same function and can be used in the same way. If you need more focal length options, better creative effects, and work that has more expressive composition and storytelling details, the Mavic 3 Pro Series is here to meet your shooting needs. I have to confess that when I first heard that the Mavic 3 Pro was likely to include three cameras, I was skeptical about how effective and useful the two telephoto cameras would be. This was simply down to the fact that the Mavic 3 telephoto camera was extremely limited at launch, to the point of being pretty much pointless. Then with the Mavic 3 Classic, which had a few reductions in video specs, including the removal of the Apple ProRes format for video, it felt like DJI might be giving up on the multi-camera approach. The success of the Mavic line led to other machines; a bunch of other machines; split semi-roughly along consumer and more prosumer lines. On the consumer front, we saw the Mavic AIR, the Mavic Mini, the Mavic AIR 2, the Mini 2, and the AIR 2S. (Those last two seem to mark a departure for DJI in the naming department. Despite the clear form factor heritage, the company has dropped the “Mavic” name.)
