Description

The latest edition of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide has been published, with 28 Kent pubs making the list for the first time. The 2023 edition of CAMRA's Good Beer Guide is the 50th in the series of this essential reference to the best 4,500 or so of the UK's pubs. To mark this milestone, the layout of the book has been updated in line with that found in other major national guide books that appear annually such as National Trust and English Heritage. The anniversary was marked by launches in pubs around the country on 27 October, including in our own Seven Stars in Falmouth which has been in 49 out of the 50 Guides, only missing out in 1974 because our local CAMRA branch in Cornwall was still being formed. There are only five pubs in the whole country that have been in all 50 editions. These adverts enable local businesses to get in front of their target audience – the local community. Wimbledon Brewery Tap in Colliers Wood at Unit 8, College Fields Business Centre, 19 Prince Georges Road, SW19 2PT Each of the pubs always offers customers an excellent choice of real ales, including those from local and regional brewers, as well as hosting its own beer festival.

We want our comments to be a lively and valuable part of our community - a place where readers can debate and engage with the most important local issues. The ability to comment on our stories is a privilege, not a right, however, and that privilege may be withdrawn if it is abused or misused.

It is now split into regions, with an introduction to each section from Laura Hadland, the author of 50 Years of CAMRA, and the brewery information is now split regionally and follows the pub section. It is hoped that this arrangement will make the GBG more user-friendly and accessible. The GBG remains the UK’s definitive guide to pubs that serve top quality real ale, with entries chosen by CAMRA volunteers, with no fees paid (or asked for) for inclusion. Although laid out differently, the unique listing of breweries is still included. Pubs truly have been at their heart of their communities, even when they were not able to operate as a business. This book provides an insight into the rich tapestry of UK pub culture," he said. CAMRA’s national chairman Nik Antona said: “It is a huge achievement that we’re able to celebrate 50 years of publishing the Good Beer Guide, and a real testament to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, who undertake the assessments. Volunteers then rate the pubs based on their quality of beer, atmosphere, location and ability to accommodate real ale drinkers.
