The LPs drawn from the Village Vanguard sessions in 1961, when he recorded with his great trio that included Scott LaFaro on bass Paul Motian on drums, are widely considered to be the pianist’s high-water mark, but he was an artist of unusual consistency, not just in quality but also in musical vision. Description 'Treasures' is a 3LP set of never-before-released live recordings by jazz piano icon Bill Evans insolo, trio and orchestral performances from the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, television and radio broadcasts in Denmark in the mid-to-late 1960s, 180g vinyl - triple gatefold sleeve. i was at 2 of these shows and they were a highlight of the year for me, so glad to see this music released -- the interplay is incredible and the interpretations are so fresh. The second disc contains later trio recordings, this time featuring bassist Eddie Gomez, eventually the pianist’s longest-tenured collaborator, along with drummers Alex Riel (on the ’66 set) and Marty Morell (from a ’69 session). LondonJazz is a not-for profit venture, but may occasionally take on work as a paid publicist and/or sell advertising packages. When you pair Evans’ endlessly listenable style with a seemingly bottomless well of recorded gigs, you get a reissue cottage industry boosted further by the vinyl revival. That said, Mikkelborg’s arrangements hold interest, sprinkling modernist dissonance in with the lush cinematic swoon. An official Elemental Music release in collaboration with the Bill Evans Estate , 'Treasures' is a 'holy grail' discovery culled from the private collection of Norwegian jazz musician Ole Matthiessenand released for the very first time as a limited-edition 180-gram 3LP deluxe set.If Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue is the most common entry point for a new jazz fan and John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme is number two, a typical next step would be an album by Bill Evans.

Handpicked Selection – Includes eight carefully chosen recordings that represent the pinnacle of Bill Evans’ musicianship. In the edit page, go to the 'Metadata' tab and add your Juno artist, label or release page for listeners to purchase your release / releases. This even though Evans probably didn’t give these sessions much thought once they were over—he was a busy man during these years, always on the way to the next gig. Bill Evans sets such as Treasures: Solo, Trio and Orchestra Recordings from Denmark (1965-1969) seemingly fall from the heavens on a regular basis. The performances also sound more expansive, this trio’s take on Nardis (again, closing the set) a lengthy 8:06 versus the 3:35 of the previous set. Listening to the trio on this version, Evan’s playing responds by adding more bounce, which speaks to bass and drums and takes nothing away from the emotion he displayed in his solo version of the song. A few songs later, he ends his solo set with “Epilogue,” the haunting fragment threaded through his 1958 LP Everybody Digs Bill Evans. This collector's edition vinyl album features a selection of eight musical gems, pressed on a high-quality 180g black vinyl, encapsulating the essence of Bill Evans' elegant and emotive playing style. Next up is a trio set recorded in Holbæk (November 1965) comprising Evans and NHØP again but with Alex Riel on drums.

The pianist was starting to think more ambitiously and expansively during the mid-1960s, culminating in the lush ‘orchestral suite’ here from 1969, arranged by Palle Mikkelborg, which sees Bill again in an outgoing mood; it's great, but there's not enough Evans. And Evans fans may also be tempted by the earlier Elemental release Behind The Dikes – The 1969 Netherlands Recordings, which also is available in 2-CD or 3-LP format plus booklet. An official Elemental Music release in collaboration with the Bill Evans Estate, Treasures is a 'holy grail' discovery culled from the private collection of Norwegian jazz musician Ole Matthiessen and released for the very first time as a limited-edition 180-gram 3LP deluxe set. To expand our coverage even further and develop new means to foster jazz discovery and connectivity we need your help. Someday My Prince Will Come’ states the melody, then takes off into the eddies and streams that emanate from it. Evans’s chord choices at the end echo the orchestra’s opening well before giving way to its symphonic closing.

Recently been getting into vinyl over the last year, I’ve been expanding my collection and I’m glad I’ve gotten into it. As well as the usual ‘track listing, personnel and recording dates’ type information, the booklet is packed with rare photos, interviews with (or articles on) the musicians involved, and other insightful articles such as an analysis of Bill Evans’s time in Denmark. Interestingly, there's an emphasis throughout this double set on Evans’ own compositions, which might be a reflection of his confidence during this period. This is the quickest I've resold an RSD release, and it wasn't a hard decision to make even though I lost money on it. These recordings capture the trios at the height of Evans’s foray into leading a trio that listened and responded to each other rather than the supportive musicians leaning back and accompanying the piano. The second indicator of a worthwhile investment is that the credits in the booklet include two people who worked on ‘sound restoration’ – and given that the recordings are from tapes of sixties radio broadcasts, they’ve done a good job. More recently though I have been really into Jazz music and I was just curious if anybody has listened to Bill Evans Treasures album.
