Koka Noodles Vegan? (Check Out These Vegan Flavors) Are Koka Noodles Vegan? (Check Out These Vegan Flavors)

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified E621 as a food ingredient that’s “generally recognized as safe,” but there’s still a lot of controversy surrounding it. Why Is Beef Flavoring Vegan? None of the ingredients are derived from animals. You might question ingredients such as beef flavoring and E621, but those are vegan-friendly. What is E621 & Is It Vegan? The noodles were a little too mushy for our taste and the soup was extremely tasteless and contained hardly any flavour. After one mouthful, we all knew that we had enough and gave scores ranging from 0 to 2. Fun fact: Maggi is actually under Nestle (yes, the same Nestle that makes your Kit Kats and Milo). What do the Swiss know about instant noodles? I’m not sure but they’ve got it nailed. Among the different flavors in their Original line, you can find flavors such as Seafood and Prawn, which are not suitable for vegans.

2. Maggi (6/10)

Volatile compounds – that help deliver the overall flavor profile, and many of these compounds go through a processing stage to adapt into a rounder meat flavor; Heavy - Active for much of the day, walking non-stop and carrying objects. Typical jobs: hospital/ward nurse, waitressing in a busy restaurant, cleaner, porter, labourer/construction worker, gardener, farm worker. Leisure Activity Level Fortunately, most Original Koka Noodles are suitable for vegans, except for their seafood-based flavors, which contain “ground prawn” or “prawn powder”. Just because it’s a house brand doesn’t mean it’s bad. I can’t wait to try the other flavours! 3. Koka (5.5/10)

What we got was a great broth that had good flavour and noodles that were soft yet springy. Compared to those before, this one was definitely better. It had a mild broth that was not too bland and the noodles were as per normal. Evident from the score, we found it very average with nothing too special nor memorable. 4. FairPrice (5.4/10) Awakening your senses while boosting immunity with each delicious bite, this antioxidant-rich noodle, made with the unique Peruvian purple corn, is the epitome of taste meets wellness in the truest sense. What we really appreciated was the dehydrated corn and cabbage which, when re-hydrated, provided a nice sweetness and textural contrast. Perhaps this is one instant noodle which we can eat for supper and not feel as guilty. The soup for 出前一丁 was flavourful and felt like a homemade one instead of one made with artificial flavourings. Together with the noodles which soaked up the soup perfectly, each mouthful was robust and wholesome.

Just like Unif however, we were let down by this brand. The soup was one-dimensional and tasted rather bland, making one mouthful more than enough. However, I have to say that the noodles were springy and had a nice mouthfeel which was a huge plus. Brought to you by Singapore’s beloved brand of instant noodles, KOKA Creamy Soup is an innovative combination of Western-style soup and Asian-inspired flavour and springy crushed noodles. Take a sip, and be prepared to be dazzled by a sizzling new taste sensation!

Spicy, tangy, sweet, peppery. Any true Asian knows that bold flavours are at the heart of a delicious bowl of steaming instant noodles. KOKA Signature is the perfect union of Singapore’s favourite herbs and spices with her best-loved local dishes. Inactive - Do very little exercise, going for the occasional walk (moderate pace, low intensity). Spend majority of leisure time doing activities such as watching TV, playing computer games, on the internet, reading, cooking, driving, general household chores. To save you from all the trouble (and MSG), and to find out if our personal favourites were really “the best brand”, we organised a blind taste test in the office featuring eight different instant noodle brands (including crowd favourites like Nissin, Maggi & Myojo) that can be easily found in our supermarkets. They’re not vegan because they contain an ingredient called “prawn powder,” which is essentially grounded prawn. From our celebrated kitchen to your table, KOKA serves up ever more healthier, delicious recipes like no other. This low-fat, multigrain noodle is fortified with the goodness of whole oats and barley for your guilt-free enjoyment.

Each noodle brand was given a score out of 10 and we ranked them according to how high they fared. We judged them based on the noodle’s texture, flavour of the soup as well as the overall experience. It’s an Umami substance that intensifies the meaty, savory flavor of food, making it much tastier, and it’s incredibly important in products such as Koka Noodles as it brings out a meaty flavor in their vegan noodles. Seasoning: Salt, Sugar, Hydrolysed Soy Protein, Beef Flavoring (contains Celery), Flavour Enhancer (E621), Chives, and Spices.

Cue drumroll* In top place is Nissin’s 出前一丁! When we found out the results, we weren’t surprised at all. The Japanese have mastered the art of instant noodles and there’s no doubt about that.
