Having lived in Cornwall my whole life up until very recently, I love losing myself in McLaughlin’s fictional counterpart. Initially, I wasn’t enamoured with the change in location when the previous instalment came out, but I feel with this new novel I warmed to Port Karadow more. I think this was helped by the summer setting opposed to Christmas. Cornwall is magic in the sunshine, not so much in the cold mizzle! (Note: That's what we Cornish call that really light rain that gets you absolutely soaked!) They’re are helping the Crystal Waters Hotel to ramp up its green credentials, though after a bumpy journey, Hannah can’t shake off the feeling that Porthgolow is strangely familiar. Never able to resist a mystery, her interest is piqued when the hotel’s staff and customers report odd noises and sightings, believing the hotel to be haunted. The ideal summer escape’ Woman’s Weekly ‘Gorgeous…’ Woman Praise for the Cornish Cream Tea series: ‘Gorgeous!’ Phillipa Ashley ‘Perfect’ Cathy Bramley ‘Warm-hearted fun with a sprinkle of love’ Holly Martin Ben was an intriguing character who I grew to love. His past shadowed his pure heart of gold but as his barriers began to come down we could see he was a pure gentleman with a whole lot of love to give, he had just lost his way. Thea is a librarian, but has a dream to open a book shop by the sea (isn't that a bookworms dream?) so books a holiday with her friend to Port Karradow a childhood destination.

Grumpy x sunshine trope anyone? This was fun and I loved Thea as a character, obviously Scooter the dog had my heart too! A dream of having a bookshop by the sea. I couldn’t think of anything better. I loved Thea and Ben (😍😍) and it was great catching up with the other characters from previous books and obviously re-visiting the idyllic Cornish setting. The story was somewhat predictable as are the majority of this genre but I was not disappointed. I liked the characters and how their lives interacted. Heartwarming and a great holiday read Abby Field loves every inch of Meadowsweet Nature Reserve on the idyllic Suffolk coast where she lives and works. Especially Swallowtail House, the rambling but empty country house that seems to look out at her each time she passes it’s shut-up windows. Whether you’re after vintage china, towers of homemade scones or an idyllic atmosphere, Miss V’s in St Just in Roseland is simply a stunning place to settle down for a bite to eat. After a peaceful walk along the nearby creek, head into Miss V’s for a first-class brekkie or lunch or, if you fancy something even more decadent, try out their rendition of a Cornish cream tea.

Thea starts to wonder if her perfect escape wasn’t meant to be. That’s before she realizes there is more to Ben – and to the community – than she first thought. As a magical Cornish summer stretches out in front of her, Thea discovers this is one holiday that she never wants to end… As with previous books from the series we get reacquainted with some previous characters and this time it is Merry and Flynn, so very lovely to see them again.

The Cornish Cream Tea Holiday: The most uplifting escapist

The Cornish believe that with the jam being applied first, it’s easier to spread and one can taste the cream better on top. You wouldn’t put cream on the bottom of a fruit salad. ‘Don’t treat your clotted cream like butter and your scone will taste all the better!’ Don’t get us started on the pronunciation of the word scone! Does it rhyme with ‘gone’ or ‘bone’, is it ‘skon’ or ‘skoan’? Cressida McLaughlin writes the best escapist, entertaining and enjoyable romantic comedies and her latest, The Cornish Cream Tea Holiday, is a warm-hearted, hilarious, emotional and captivating charmer that I couldn’t stop reading. An absolutely terrific tale imbued with so much fun, humour and poignancy, The Cornish Cream Tea Holiday is a feel-good and uplifting read guaranteed to leave every reader with a great big smile on their face. Has Charlie’s Cornish dream developed a soggy bottom? Or can she convince Daniel that her bus could take them somewhere wonderful?Just picture it… you’re enjoying a lovely day out in Wadebridge and cycling along the Camel Trail when hunger strikes… but wait! What’s that just around the corner? One of Cornwall’s best-kept secrets waiting to ply you with fresh-out-the-oven scones topped with a hearty dollop of jam and heaps of Cornish clotted cream. Now that’s what we call being in the right place at the right time.

This is an absolute dream for any book lover. A librarian looking for premises to open a bookshop, numerous mentions of books (as if my tbr pile wasn’t already ridiculous!) and a hunky love interest to swoon over. This is the perfect read for the beach, sun lounger or sofa, if the British summertime doesn’t deliver! Great series but equally so as a standalone read. Highly recommend. While Falmouth is famously surrounded by water, because of its sheltered location it’s not known for its surfing credentials. The water is quite calm here in Falmouth Bay, which means watersports ar...
