Claire's best friend has announced her engagement and Claire is disappointed to find out that she's not been asked to be a bridesmaid. It’s all PR, whether good or bad and Amanda just wants the fame and the money that will surely follow. There is one scene in particular on a plane that is astonishing, both in the writing and in how it plays out. Throw in some razor-sharp commentary on influencing, the world of work, and mental health, and the result is a sparky, funny, clever and at times heart-wrenching book that I struggled to put down.

However, I do find with the introduction of social media, making real friends and keeping them can be quite difficult. This book has a serious message at its heart and one that we often don't see until it is too late - everyone's good mental health is important. The writing in the closing chapters is beautiful and informative and makes something that is usually ignored in this type of book relatable and understandable and I thought it was generous of the author to include and explore. My only qualm with this book, alongside some moments of slow pacing, is that I would have liked more insight into the character of Amanda. There is a lot going on between those green covers so be prepared to be amused and thoughtful as you go on a journey with three thirty-somethings as they traverse the rollercoaster that is life today.Do not confuse with " Friends with benefits", as sexual attraction isn't directed towards someone who is hot friend material. Fate brings these women together as they try to manage the complexities of finding and maintaining friendships in your thirties and how hard it can be. I flew through it in two days, loved the storyline and characters and will definitely pick up another Sophie White book! That being said, I think because of that many fiction books shy away from the issues which are very real and very common. This was light enough not to be bawling crying all the time and rich enough to feel completely immersed. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. For a book which, on the surface, looks like a ‘chick lit’, ‘beach read’ kinda book, the plotline is rather dark, but in a good way.

Early on in lockdown, I was struck by an article I read about the Spanish Flu in early 20th century fiction — namely, that it was notably absent. Kitzinger ducked and tried to change the topic, but one rather felt his credibility as a member of the “reality-based community” dissolved as the camera pulled away. I will be honest, at the start of this book I was struggling with all the various friend names and groups and on the surface the storyline seemed to be a tad fluffy. Lexi’s successful podcast is shared with her best friend and boyfriend, and they’re about to sign a deal which will earn them megabucks, but it’s achingly clear neither have her best interests at heart.

Sophie white has an incredible gift at approaching difficult and sensitive topics in a serious yet hilarious way. BUT it became clear that this wasn't going to be like an episode of FRIENDS and Sophie was weaving together some powerful portrayals of mental health, motherhood and even ethics and morals in social media influencers. a darkly funny, raw story about friendship, vulnerability and honesty' Irish TimesLexi is on top of the worldThe podcast she co-hosts with her ride-or-die bestie is going stratospheric. People who are classes as hot friend material usually have a great sense of humour / a good personality. These women are at a point where the friendships that defined their youth are now fraught with difficulties such as distance, busy schedules, changing priorities and toxicity. How are they to navigate the relationships that have been so important to them for so long and how it is possible to move on. Each of them have distinct voices, personalities that grow and evolve over the pages, and their own growth is what drives the story forward as we spend time getting into their lives and the little moments that the outside world doesn’t see.
