I have a pair of KRK Rokit RP8 which I use to DJ with. I bought these Yamaha's because of the flat sound I need for DJ production. I use these in combination with a Focusrite 2i4.

The only way to explain the difference in listening from low budget studio monitors or HiFi speakers to this (mid budget) monitor, is listening to music under water, then taking your head out of the water, and then the music and everything gets defined and cristal clear. With an advanced design regulating the magnetic response, these transducers boast beautifully natural transitions. I been after a pair of HS for a while for the home studio, and finally got the HS-7. Got the 6.5 inches version to improve on the low end response (details on this below). Another fact is that the sub is 6,5 inches and not 7. I don't know why, but it is true that the best use you give these monitors is pairing them with an HS8S subwoofer. Measurements are compliant with latest speaker research into what can predict the speaker preference and is standardized in CEA/CTA-2034 ANSI specifications. Likewise listening tests are performed per research that shows mono listening is much more revealing of differences between speakers than stereo or multichannel.

I bought these monitors for a home studio situation, that includes playing VST instruments through them, my guitars, recording, mixing, mastering etc. I wanted an all round good pair of monitor that won't overpower a regular sized room that wasn't mean as a studio. At a decent budget. I use these studio monitors to mix electronic dance music, mostly House, Electro House, and Dubstep. They are BIG! The HS-7 are huge! take this in consideration (I might needed to take the HS-5 + SW intead of this ones).

Cons: May seem a little pricey for a home studio, but worth every penny. Other than that, at this time I have none.

I had very good monitors in the past (also Yamaha, other Alesis, etc) and though I had a good listening experience, but I was wrong. The NS10's are a trademark, but these new monitors (HS5/7/8) are more advanced, and better built. Overall, great quality of sound and design. Their clarity is way higher, and their sound is flatter. Pros: The overall sound is well balanced and the details of the *mid-range are superb. The top end is crisp and clean, and the bottom end as much as I need for my style, (jazz fusion). *The mid-range has fantastic detailing, much of which I now realise that I have never heard. Yamaha's HS series comprises the HS5 and the HS7, and either model can be used alone or teamed with the HS8S subwoofer. I usually discourage the use of subwoofers in smaller studios as the extended bass end can exacerbate the acoustic problems that are prevalent in small, untreated rooms. However, a smaller sub, such as the HS8S, does have the advantage that you can put the main speakers where they meet ergonomic requirements while placing the sub in a position that gives the most even bass response. In my own view the sub would be best combined with the HS5s as the HS7s already have enough low end for most small spaces (they are specified as covering 43Hz to 30kHz, but where the studio is garage-sized or bigger the HS7/sub combination would be appropriate.

Measurements that you are about to see were performed using the Klippel Near-field Scanner (NFS). This is a robotic measurement system that analyzes the speaker all around and is able (using advanced mathematics and dual scan) to subtract room reflections (so where I measure it doesn't matter). It also measures the speaker at close distance ("near-field") which sharply reduces the impact of room noise. Both of these factors enable testing in ordinary rooms yet results that can be more accurate than an anechoic chamber. In a nutshell, the measurements show the actual sound coming out of the speaker independent of the room. Extremely dense MDF has been used to create the enclosure boasting dampened acoustic response and ensuring accurate audio reproduction even at the highest volumes. To sum it all up, my experience with these has been the best, they've almost burnt in and they are sounding great! The HS7 can reproduce frequencies down to 43Hz, allowing you to make more informed decisions when mixing your music without the need for a subwoofer. Being able to perceive low frequencies during mixing is crucial, as it prevents you from overcompensating and creating a muddier mix! If you’re recording or mixing in a bedroom or project studio setting that isn’t acoustically treated, the bass that the HS7 put out should be plenty. The HS8 is available if you require even more depth and clarity in the lows.I needed a pair of well recommended monitors for my small home studio, recording guitar and vocals. The previous appraisals here on Thomann were pretty much all good, so I went along with all those that were happy with these speakers!

Since the Yamaha HS7 has separate dedicated amps for the tweeter and woofer this active studio monitor is able to give you consistent, high-resolution sound with incredibly flat response. Low Resonance Design and Noise Reduction Technology Office Chain: Dan Clark Aeon X Open -> Nitsch Magni Piety -> Bifrost 2 OG Absolute Phase inverted -> AK SP2000 (local) Leaving no-stone unturned in the search for audio excellence, even the Yamaha HS7's cabinet has been specially designed to reduce resonance. Because of their newly developed transducers, Yamaha HS7 studio monitors boast incredibly smooth over a wide frequency range. Furthermore, taking notes from Yamaha's over 100 year history of piano design, the HS7 monitor enclosure is made with a three-way mitred-joint.

Made possible through intensive research and analysis, the specially designed port on the HS7 reduces audible noise up to 6dB. Controls and Connectivity Painstakingly designed to raise the bar and set a new stand for studio monitors, the Yamaha HS7 gives you incredibly accurate audio.
