Though Harry bears a great resemblance to his father, it is often noted that he has Lily's eyes. Dumbledore has said that Harry's deepest nature is much more similar to his mother's. [26] In a 1999 interview, Rowling stated that "he has his mother's eyes, and that's very important in a future book". [27] That future book was Deathly Hallows. In Snape's death scene in that novel, after having passed on his memories to Harry, he whispers to Harry: "Look... at... me..." In one of Snape's memories, it is revealed that Dumbledore persuades Snape to protect Harry after Lily's death by mentioning the fact that he has "precisely" the same eyes as his mother. His last words to Harry were simply a desire to see Lily's eyes before he died.

In the films, Moody is portrayed considerably different from his literary counterpart. Differences between his description in the book and his portrayal on film include his magical eye being held in place by an eye patch-like strap and brass ring, having a less mutilated face, including a full nose instead of a piece of it missing. The Dark Lord and I have much in common. Both of us, for instance, had very disappointing fathers... very disappointing indeed. Both of us suffered the indignity, Harry, of being named after those fathers. And both of us had the pleasure... the very great pleasure... of killing our fathers! ... I will be honoured beyond all other Death Eaters. I will be his dearest, his closest supporter... Closer than a son..." — Barty to Harry Potter about Lord Voldemort [src] Part of the Advance Guard that helped Harry in his escape from the Dursleys in the fifth book. She then escorts the Dursleys into hiding at the beginning of the final book, along with Dedalus Diggle. Hestia is surprised to know that the Dursleys are unaware of Harry's importance in the anti-Voldemort movement, and later confronts them for the treatment they give to the boy.

Moody enters the classroom for the fourth-year Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson. He tells the students they can put away their books, as they won't be needing them. Moody tells the class that they are very behind on dealing with curses, and says that he will be bringing them up to scratch on what harm wizards can do to each other. He tells the class that he has one year to teach them how to deal with Dark magic as he intends to return to his retirement at the end of the year. It is revealed in Moody's office that the real Alastor Moody has been held captive throughout the school year by Barty Crouch Junior, imprisoned inside his own trunk. He was kept close to the impostor to allow him to create regular batches of Polyjuice Potion, for which Moody's hair was required. The fact that Moody is well known for only drinking from his own hip-flask was one of the reasons the deception worked so well. Crouch Junior revealed that the day Arthur Weasley was summoned to help with a commotion at Moody's house was the day they made the switch. The real Moody was subdued by Wormtail and Barty Crouch Junior, and was forced into his own trunk after some of his hair was taken for the Polyjuice Potion. Under the Imperius Curse, Moody was questioned by Barty Crouch Junior about his past and his habits, to allow the impostor to fool even Dumbledore. Barty's appearance in the film differs drastically from his looks in the book. In the book, he has straw blond hair and is more lined but in the film, he has brown hair.

Herbology: As an Auror, Moody was skilled in Herbology, as he had to have received at least an Exceeds Expectations in his O.W.L. and N.E.W.T. for this subject. [45] The Dark Lord didn't manage to kill you, Potter, and he so wanted to, Imagine how he will reward me when he finds I have done it for him. I gave you to him — the thing he needed above all to regenerate — and then I killed you for him. I will be honoured beyond all other Death Eaters. I will be his dearest, his closest supporter... closer than a son...." — Barty's desire to murder Harry Potter [src] Barty, like virtually everyone else in Wizarding Britain, feared Azkaban, and the knowledge of his impending lifetime conviction (as well as the six Dementors in the room at the time) caused him to lose his nerve. Moody asks the class whether they know the three curses that are most heavily punished by wizarding law. He produces a jar containing thre spiders, and proceeds to perform the Imperius Curse, the Cruciatus Curse and the Killing Curse on the spiders during the lesson in turn. Moody is prevented from torturing the spider with the Cruciatius for too long by Hermione, who notices that Neville is badly affected by the sight of the tortured spider. After the lesson, Moody comes across Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville in the corridor outside the classroom. He maintains that it is important for them to know about the curses, harsh though it may seem. He invites Neville to have a cup of tea with him, and steers the frightened boy away towards his office. In the films, anyone who takes Polyjuice Potion has their voice remain the same, the only change being in appearance (to help avoid confusing the audience because of this change). This does not seem to be the case for Barty Crouch Jnr when he turns into Alastor Moody, however it does not seem impossible that Barty was imitating Moody's voice the entire time, or that the filmmakers decided to make this an exception since his transformation was kept secret (unlike the others that occurred throughout the films) and therefore the audience would not be aware beforehand until his identity was exposed at the end of the film (though it is notable that Crouch Jnr, without by Polyjuice, only had three lines before his exposure and was not identified, so the change in voice might not have been necessary for someone who hasn't seen Goblet of Fire before).
