From organic energy drinks to botanical tonic replacements (plus one drink that was so new, it arrived quite literally straight from the production line) – a panel of expert buyers from some of the UK’s most esteemed operators tried and tested six drinks in our efficient virtual tasting webinar. Like the rest of the service, if you’re after a lunchtime drink and meal (or even dinner) then I’d definitely recommend The Sekforde as one of the best gastro-pubs around Farringdon. A serving suggestion is the Rhubarb Float: to create Cawston Press’s homage to rhubarb and custard chews, spoon a scoop of quality vanilla ice cream into a glass and top with Sparkling Rhubarb. The rum mixer is centred around lime, mint, sage, rose and cacao bitters. With a lighter rum, it is grassy and fresh, perfect for a hot day. With heavy or aged rums, you get more of the caramel flavours coming through. Arriving in June in its top three flavours – Sparkling Rhubarb, Cloudy Apple and Elderflower Lemonade – the fizzy drinks are simply sweetened with pressed fruit.

Best described as “standing room only” on busy night, The Jerusalem Tavern makes use of the space towards the street for people to overspill into, creating a real buzz on a warm or festive evening.

In addition to the huge beer selection, the food on offer The Dovetail is also really good. From wild boar burgers to a plate of mussels, the food selection is reasonably priced and of really decent quality. Sekforde Drinks’ Aromatic Raspberry, Rose & Sage soda can be enjoyed on its own as a soft drink but has also been tailored to mix with gin and vodka (our panellists tasted it with Chase Distillery Gin). That said, standing out on the shelf is only half the battle. Ultimately, it’s the taste of any drink which will convince customers to keep buying it.
