As though that sob had carried with it the last of his strength, the fleeing creature toppled forward.However, when the squad is assembled and the diverse creatures begin to mesh, first as a set of conflicting personalities, eventually as a functioning unit, the narrative power increases and the novel became much more enjoyable. To my relief, The Goblin Corps possesses the same elements that made The Conqueror’s Shadow so much fun to read. THE GOBLIN CORPS at first seems like your average dungeon crawl adventure, but Marmell is clever and makes it funny, twisty, and fresh.Unfortunately, the introduction of each member of the Demon Squad was the least cohesive aspect of the novel. The Iron Keep of the lich-king and his wife’s city state of Castle Eldritch are truly creepy locales, detailed with great flair for the reader’s enjoyment. His first wholly original novel was The Conqueror’s Shadow, followed by the sequel, The Warlord’s Legacy.
