He comes from the land of earth elementals, and he's feared because he can manipulate rock, chunks of earth and sand instead of vines and plants? I was beyond excited and ready to close myself in my bat cave so I could enjoy it, but unfortunately life had other plans so it took me 3 days to finish it! I think forming connections to them and their pasts as individuals would pull me in closer, deepening the readers love for them as people.

There were loopholes and I’m guessing they’ll be addressed in the next book because if not then this book had the shittiest ending ever. One minute Arianna is this incredible warrior of legend, strong and won't let anything, let alone over a year of slavery, break her. This part of the book introduces us to the characters, some background, the build-up, setting up plot lines, etc which I did find to be a little slow even though it's not. It's not the crying and fainting that's the issue - feel your feelings girl, they are absolutely valid - it's just that they felt like plot drivers rather than representative of actual emotion. I stumbled upon this book when scrolling through tiktok; I immediately knew I had to read this and couldn't wait to know the release date, so imagine my happiness when the author asked me if I was interested in reading an ARC of her book! The fae setting, a growing war between enemy kingdoms, and the chase of being on run and finding refuge in a commander not known for being kind was a very well, thought out balance. I truly loved the escapism that this book gave me, in those short snippets of time when I was able to dive back into the world of Alastríona and just listen to the tale between the Divine and the Cursed.

The sun illuminated the area enough for her to witness the exhilaration on Rion’s face and the Fairy Folk that played at their feet. and I’m so disappointed that the author didn’t take the time to give more depth, and create a little clearer story line. The book starts with a bang, the writing is easy to understand, the chapters are short, which just helps to pull you in and not let go.

I don't believe this was an intentional choice by the author or that it was in any way "copying" another story, just that it unfortunately didn't feel unique or fully flow on it's own, because it's hard to not compare, especially on certain elements/scenes. The initial plot seems fun, if not cliche, but it quickly became a jumbled mess of poorly thought out characters and plots.

Okay so now I might agree on 3/5 🌟 but not more because even for the first book of a series, it did feel abrupt. The tropes in this book include: enemies to lovers, one bed, touch her/him and you die an She is currently a slave in Brónach, the country which has been in a decade-long war against her homeland Móirín. For me, if a major plot point can unravel with just a conversation then I get frustrated with the story. edit june 2024: I just found out this finally got a cover makeover and the new one is absolutely gorgeous! She felt like every colour, constantly spinning, never settling in one place, because this feeling, this love was too strong to be confined to a single colour.

It's not that I mind, it was actually sweet that this was closed-door and very metaphorical as it ties into how these characters are dealing emotionally. however the author did manage to surprise me with the different personalities of the two main protagonists. I need more of Arianna and Rion and I need to know what happens next and how all the dots are connected.I don’t know where to begin with how good this book is the world building and the traveling that happened went smooth. For the last year and a half, Arianna has done whatever she could to survive, including keeping herself out of the males' beds, by disguising herself as a half-breed Fae. Even when nothing major was happening, the way the descriptions were written kept me interested, and I can say with all honesty, that I never felt bored while reading the book. That being said, if you’re looking for an easy-to-digest YA fantasy romance, this is the book for you to check out as soon as possible! Today I present you with another instance of "Txell picking up a book she's clearly not going to like but deciding to read it back to back anyway".
