Miranda Janatka is a gardener, teacher and writer for BBC Gardeners' World Magazine. She spent five years as a botanical horticulturist at Kew Gardens and holds both the Kew Diploma and a degree from the Courtauld Institute of Art. Wrest Park is a bit of a well-kept secret. Just an hour out of London, the grandeur of the 95 acres of formalgarden, huge parterres, manor house and incredible iconic views attracts attentionfrom all the must-see period dramas, such as The Crown and Bridgeton which arefilmed there. Everyone reading this will know the pros of being a gardener – I love the people, theplants, the feel of the earth, the warm steam from the mulch on a frosty morning, andthe cold beer together after a good and physically exhausting week’s work. Butworking as a writer meant more flexibility for me, being able to relocate out of a tinyflat in West London into a space with our own garden.

Every day of the year a different species of flower bursts into bloom somewhere in the world. This collection of 366 flowers reveals not only their beauty but the fascinating botanical, literary, folkloric and historical stories behind them. Discover the magnificent magnolia, which evolved more than 95 million years ago at the time of the dinosaurs, and the specific perfumed rose that covers the land around Grasse in France. Read about the powerful medicinal elements of manuka bush flowers and the inspiration behind William Wordsworth’s “host of golden daffodils.” This, at first glance, is an observation of flowers – but its more than that – this book talks about their meanings, their history, their names, where they can be found. This is actually not a book, its a love letter from Miranda, directly to flowers and what they mean to her. And Miranda certainly knows her stuff, having studied at Kew and now in her role at Gardener’s World Magazine. I am very excited to currently be writing another beautiful book about plants forBatsford Publishing. Please do ask me again next spring and I promise to spill thebeans for you then and reveal everything, watch this space!

A Flower A Day’ brings together a sublime collection of florals from around the world for us to enjoy, without even needing to go anywhere! Now, I have to be clear here – this isn’t an instructional tome. You wont be discovering the problems you’ve been having with your peonies or the troubles with your tulips, no – that’s not what this book is for. At the heart of this book is a journey through what flowers bring to our every day lives. Every day of the year, a different species of flower bursts into bloom somewhere in the world. This collection of 366 flowers reveals not only their beauty but also the fascinating botanical, literary, folkloric, and historical stories behind them.
