In files, you’ll see all the files currently on the SD card. In sound pad you have the option to customize the four sound pad buttons (new sounds can be added via the SD card). The mic settings allow you to apply a lo-cut filter or a (digital) limiter. File transfer is used when the device is plugged into a computer via USB instead of taking out the SD card from one and inserting it into the other.

The PodTrak P4 will make your life easier. With an extended battery life and USB bus power, you'll be free to record for as long as you like. Use whatever microphones you desire. The P4 offers support for condensers, dynamics and ribbon microphones. Your podcasts will sound excellent. The inclusion of built-in limiters prevent the risk of distortion ruining those all important interviews. Whilst the low-cut filters reduce any low frequency rumble. Making your capture clear and concise. If you desire to make great podcasts then look no further than the Zoom PodTrak P4.The ultimate tool for multi-person podcasts. Meet the Zoom PodTrak P4. The P4 allows you to create industry standard, polished podcasts wherever you are. Cost effective and compact. You'll be able to record using up four microphones and provide separate headphone feeds for each guest. If a guest can't make it. No problem. They'll be able join your podcast remotely. This can be recorded free from echo so it sounds like they're in the room. You don’t have to record into a computer as the Podtrak P4 has an SD Card slot, allowing you to record without anything else. But if you want to record into a computer or stream your show online you can do so with the Podtrak P4. What about remote guests or co-hosts? The RE20 is a dynamic microphone (see my post: Condenser vs Dynamic Microphone: What Is The Difference?). That means not only do you NOT have to turn on the phantom power on the PodTrak, but the mic is already much quieter, requiring a lot more power just to be heard at all.

Most professional podcasts feature music, sound effects, and advertisements. Including these in your own is effortless thanks to the four sound pads. Triggering them is as easy as pressing the pad. The P4 comes loaded with 11 highly usable presets so if you're not technically inclined you can still hit the ground running and make excellent content straight out of the box. Portable power So next up is the noise-only recording with the RE20 going into the PodTrak at level 9 on the input knob. Interestingly the noise is lower than the RODE, though still unacceptably loud, in my opinion. This is because of 2 things. Another major pro of the PodTrak P4 is how intuitive and easy it is to use. Disadvantages of Zoom PodTrak P4 Plastic buildOn the Podtrak P4, both input 3 and input 4 have built-in mix-minus functionality which is great because you don’t have to set it up yourself each time. There are 4 buttons that can trigger any audio you want. The unit comes with 11 preset sounds that you can map to any of the 4 pad buttons. These are things like applause, laughter, jingles, rim shots, etc. But you can put absolutely any audio onto these buttons. So if you have, say, a previous interview recorded, you can have that loaded onto a pad button and just play it while doing your show. Next is the Rode mic + Focusrite Scarlett again with me recording some text. Focusrite Scarlett + Rode NT2-A – VoiceOver However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers.

I did lots of audio tests in this review. I wanted to compare recordings from my standard recording interface (Focusrite Scarlett 2i2) with the PodTrak. I also wanted to test the difference in noise levels when using the limiter function and when not using it. Finally, I did a test podcasts doing a dial-in interview and a Zoom call interview, with my wife as that “guest” and me as host. Below are all the audio samples. Each of the participants you’re recording should be wearing headphones. This means they can hear exactly how they sound, as the recording is happening. If they keep popping the mic, they’ll know about it. If they’re too far away from the mic, they’ll know about that too. Or at least, they should. You might still need to step in and advise them on their technique now and then, but it certainly makes your life easier. The P4 has 70db of gain which is more than enough to power gain hungry microphones like the ElectroVoice RE320, Shure SM7b, or the Heil PR40. There is more than enough gain to use these microphones without an additional boost from a Cloudlifter, Fethead, or simply sound device. The customizable sound pads allow you to live mix during your recording. All you need to do is tap the pad and trigger your chosen music, jingles, or other pre-recorded audio. You can choose to upload your own media or choose from the PodTrak’s pre-loaded selection. Record directly to your computer or phone Since you can turn up the input gain as high as you want, that means cranking up the noise from the mic/interface as well. There is a way to avoid this, which I’ll talk about below (after the super noisy audio sample). Can’t use USB mics
