I loved that in the book it is the children that teach the old man how to love again. What else do you think we can learn about life from children? Though botany is one of my least favorite and unessential things to know (in my life) I liked the educational content of the novel. Oppel has definitely done his research and brought it to the table unless he is just naturally a plant whizz. I also like how he writes very matter of factly w/o down washing terms of crises. He writes realistically about these issues even though it is a fictional thriller. I'm all for the idea of this plot - baker's son wants to break away from a future of spending his whole life working in his dad's bakery, falls in love with a new-man-in-town who is a strong, responsible, hard-working, good person - but it falls apart because the baker's son is weak, pathetic and insufferable.

You, as a privileged visitor, going through this book are being given a private tour by me, as Head Gardener and owner of Foggy Bottom. If you come as an ordinary visitor, we are open as Bressingham Gardens from 10.30am to 5pm and after your journey to get here you can see what there is to see on one day. TL;DR I know people are all trying to write these cutesy, uplifting little romance graphic novels now. I understand it's a thing. But I need the two protagonists in the romance who fall in love with each other to both be good people whom I like. People who may be flawed, but have enough good, strong personality traits for me to be rooting for them. And when two people end up together, I want to feel HAPPY, like both of them have achieved a GOOD THING, and be happy about their pleasant future together, NOT feeling like one has just been sadly burdened with a partner who is emotionally fragile, very insecure, very weak, and whom he will have to delicately and gently 'care for' and 'look after' for their whole entire relationship. JFC. Poor Hector.

The invasion begins--but not as you'd expect. It begins with rain. Rain that carries seeds. Seeds that sprout--overnight, everywhere. These new plants take over crop fields, twine up houses, and burrow below streets. They bloom--and release toxic pollens. They bloom--and form Venus flytrap-like pods that swallow animals and people. They bloom--everywhere, unstoppable. Maybe this is a me case. Maybe I’m too old for this type of book, and would have loved it a few years ago. But I personally think this one falls on Kenneth Oppel. He can do better- HAS done better. AHHH there really was so much to this book that only made it more & more exceptional as it progressed.

Tosca Lehne – Another crewmember. One of the inventors of the t-balance, which coats the outside of the Pasteur with the purpose of making it appear to be part of the Mycosystem. I read this book because I saw its screen adaptation on an OTT platform first. I loved the movie 'Penguin' and wanted to learn firsthand about the book it was based on. And that is how it came about to be. How to keep a balance between design and ‘right plant’, ‘right place’ and need for change as the garden grows and develops. Adrian has continually adapted his garden as the once empty windswept meadow became sheltered and shaded. Flooding still happens from time to time, spring frosts seek out early flowers, occasional gale blows the tops out of trees. And then there is the wildlife... More important in Adrian’s view is what the Foggy Bottom Garden represents today and how many more can benefit from sharing it. He shows and describes changes in weather and habitats, dramatic seasonal changes shown through the diversity of many worthwhile plants.

Read this! You won’t regret it! It made me laugh, it brought tears to my eyes, it made me happy— it made me feel just a whole wide range of emotions & the cherry on top was being in love with all the ADORABLE BAKING ART! Najważniejsze w komiksach są dla mnie: I would love to have something like that... To be on a team with someone... And to be better together than you could ever be alone.” the romance. there was genuinely no reason for the two mcs to like each other at all, let alone fall in love. Hector deserved so much better.

The perfect book right now for young readers searching for hope, strength, inspiration — and just a little horticultural havoc.”— New York Times Oh my... a colleague passed me this at lunchtime, and I devoured it while I ate my lunch. It's beyond words. Beautiful. Heartbreaking. Inspiring. It took me on a rollercoaster of emotions, all in the space of 30 minutes. On the surface it's the true story of the young magpie rescued by the Bloom family (and named Penguin, because of her B&W colouring). It's also the story of Sam Bloom, recently disabled in an accident, and confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Does Sam save Penguin? Or does Penguin save Sam? It was ok,' she said. 'I had a meeting with my boss. I had this great idea for a new range of pizzas, with fresher ingredients. I even suggested a few of my own recipes, things I'd been experimenting with at home.' i read this at what i felt was an appropriate pace, and i could and did put it down, so now i'm worried that i may be a grouch. how can you tell when you've crossed over? Families can talk about how you see Bloom after the coronavirus pandemic. Do you think it changes what you pay attention to in the story? Are some parts harder to read than others?

With people wearing shower caps to prevent Infection, the hand sanitizer coming out, and everyone pointing the finger at who is to blame for the outbreak while desperate for a cure to the point of pouring cement on their heads . In a time of typewriters and steam engines, Iris Winnow awaits word from her older brother, who has enlisted on the side of Enva the Skyward goddess. Alcohol abuse led to her mother’s losing her job, and Iris has dropped out of school and found work utilizing her writing skills at the Oath Gazette. Hiding the stress of her home issues behind a brave face, Iris competes for valuable assignments that may one day earn her the coveted columnist position. Her rival for the job is handsome and wealthy Roman Kitt, whose prose entrances her so much she avoids reading his articles. At home, she writes cathartic letters to her brother, never posting them but instead placing them in her wardrobe, where they vanish overnight. One day Iris receives a reply, which, along with other events, pushes her to make dramatic life decisions. Magic plays a quiet role in this story, and readers may for a time forget there is anything supernatural going on. This is more of a wartime tale of broken families, inspired youths, and higher powers using people as pawns. It flirts with clichéd tropes but also takes some startling turns. Main characters are assumed White; same-sex marriages and gender equality at the warfront appear to be the norm in this world. Another beautiful part of the book is the photographs. The author, Sam's husband Cameron, is a professional photographer and his photographs are a testament to the love and relationship the family holds with Penguin.

Reviews

WUT. Wow. What a cliffhanger. Holy. Read this is less than 24 hours because I could NOT put it down. Our story is deeply painful to share, but it is also beautiful and true...We have laughed till we cried and we have wept ourselves to sleep, for that is the nature of love.
