Description

This colourful game is a great way to teach children about spelling and phonics in a fun and progressive way. Contents: 18 double-sided word boards; 78 cards and 1 instruction leaflet. Players 1-4. Age 5 years+

Items that are not available in store will take 3-5 working days to be delivered to your nominated store. The word cards are double sided. One side shows the word already spelt out to help younger children as they try to match the letters on the card with the letter cards available. A great way for younger children to learn and help them develop their recognition and matching skills. Match and Spell Next Steps is played by building a variety of familiar and more advanced words, from ‘Moth’ to ‘Balloon’, with the help of colourful illustrations to identify words. Parents can use the sound and blend cards to encourage children to make the individual sounds as well as saying the entire word aloud. There are 18 words included in the game. Children will know how to play with this game without the need for the included instructions and will instantly start matching the letters to the word boards before you have even had a chance to put the kettle on! Double the learning, double the fun!Once children become more confident, they can turn over the boards to use the blank side for a more challenging game. The game is finished once all the word boards have been completed. The box has a mix of single letters, double and triple letter digraphs. “Knight” for example is spelt with a “Kn”, “igh” and a “t”. I found this to be the most challenging word in the box for my 4 year old, but after a few plays, she was able to spell this on her own quite easily. I saw the progression in her confidence and abilities after just a few plays with this over a couple of hours. The game helps children with the digraphs but showing a solid line where more than one letter is expected Floor Play With friendly illustrations and simple gameplay that progresses as children learn, it's no surprise that Match and Spell is our bestselling language and literacy game! Match and Spell Next Steps is an excellent follow-on from this game for children aged 5 and over.

Match and Spell Next Steps by Orchard Toys is the perfect progression from Match and Spell. Aimed at children aged 5 and over, the game helps to develop more advanced reading and spelling skills using both sounds and blends. In Phase 3, children continue to learn new graphemes (letters or groups of letters that represent a sound) and phonemes (the smallest units of sound in a word). The focus is on introducing children to more complex graphemes, including those with two or three letters that represent a sound, such as ‘ai’, ‘ee’, and ‘igh’. Children also learn to blend sounds together to read words and segment words into individual sounds for spelling. The difference with this to Match and Spell is it has longer words such as “Flower,”“Rabbit” and “Stork and digraph letter combinations for slightly older children. They're based in convenient locations including supermarkets, newsagents and train stations. Plus they're often open late and on Sundays. The game is at its best when you can spread out the letter cards so your children can look through them all clearly. As such, this is the perfect floor game. Get some cushions, throw out the letters and spend some quality time with your children. Having fun and helping their language and spelling skills.

Phase 3 of the program is typically introduced in the second half of Reception (the first year of school) and is designed to build on the skills learned in Phase 2.

The other side is blank to help promote language and literacy skills, so as your child grows in their confidence and spelling, they can try to spell the word on their own.
