What does Barbara Rosenblat bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book? Hermine " Miep" Gies ( Dutch: [mip ˈxis]; [a] née Santrouschitz; 15 February 1909 [1] – 11 January 2010) was one of the Dutch citizens who hid Anne Frank, her family ( Otto Frank, Margot Frank, Edith Frank) and four other Dutch Jews ( Fritz Pfeffer, Hermann van Pels, Auguste van Pels, Peter van Pels) from the Nazis in an annex above Otto Frank's business premises during World War II.

All the time, Miep, Jan and others were attempting to avoid arousing suspicion as they hid their friends and conducted other covert work, the full extent of which may never be known. She became a close, trusted friend of the Frank family and was a great support to them during the twenty-five months they spent in hiding. So there’s this coming of age story on one side of the bookcase, and there’s another coming of age story on the other side. The woman took off all my layers of clothes, removed the bow from my hair, and put me between the covers in the center of the other bed. He asked Miep if she would be willing to help him and his family if they had to go into hiding in the Secret Annex. Well done Miep and thank you for keeping Anne’s and her family’s name alive in the history books of time. Incredible book, beautifully written and performed, casting a light on a true survivor, humanitarian and the reason we were able to discover Anne Frank's life in writing.

At that point, Jan was working as a social worker with Social Services of the municipality of Amsterdam. Eight people crammed into a small space, unable to make noise during the day and completely reliant on six helpers, the annex’s residents lived in constant fear of being caught. And thanks to Alison Leslie Gold for bringing Miep's story to us so that this horror of all horrors will never be forgotten. She realizes that the trouble in Germany has hit closer to home when her Austrian passport gets changed to a German passport complete with a Swastika stamp. He who saves one life, it is as if he saved an entire world' The Holocaust will be forever numbered amongst the darkest of days in human civilisation.that it’s admirable to have the guts to stick your neck out — and in a modest way to not make a show about courage — and that friendship is worth risking your life for, when your friends are in trouble.

This updated edition includes the five missing pages from Anne Frank's diary, a number of new photographs, and brings to light many fascinating facts surrounding the Franks. The two quickly developed a close rapport, discussing the worsening political crisis in the Franks’ home country of Germany. There at the big table sat the strong man, the girl my age from the bedroom, and four boys of all different ages; all the faces that had stared at me the night before now looked curiously at me from around the table.

I read Anne Frank`s diary as a child and have since been fascinated by her story and by the heroism of those who risked all to help. When Miep and Bep later went to the Secret Annex to see if they could save some personal belongings of the people in hiding, they found Anne's notebooks and papers on the floor. Dutch children, like their parents, learned faithfulness in friendship very young, and would just as quickly turn implacable if any wrong was done to a friend.
