when attempting to switch to Bluetooth from Wi-Fi, it’s a real pain and doesn’t want to cooperate very much. Tune Like An Expert: Fine tune your listening experience with our exclusive ACPWorkbench tuning tool. Find the perfect sound for each channel with EQ, Bass Enhancement, Advanced DSP Effects, Gain, Pregain and more.. Do keep in mind that I found the signal over Wi-Fi to be a bit better sounding, but that could be a placebo. Generally speaking, the AUX input does not sound as good as the Ethernet or the Wifi input. S10 supports inputs from Bluetooth 5.0, RJ45 Ethernet up to 100M, as well as Wireless signals from the 802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz networks. The Bluetooth distance is quoted to be about 30 Meters, but I found it to be roughly 15 meters with no obstacles for a good , reliable signal. The SNR is 91dB, which on paper is actually pretty humble, paired with a THD of about 0.03%, which on paper also sounds pretty meager. Elevator Pitch Review: The Arylic S10 is a tiny streamer with onboard DAC that costs very little. It works very well and doesn’t sound awful, but can sound quite harsh. Very basic onboard EQ mitigates this somewhat but it is still not great in a very resolving system. However, at the level the S10 is pitched there will be few people that will find cause for complaint. It also offers multi-room capability for those that want to buy several for around their home.

I think the Valve Amp adds that little bit of nice distortion that makes it harder to differentiate. I’m listening on Sundara’s. Consuming television content is straightforward. Music content, on the other hand, is not quite so as most will have the service’s streaming app on smart devices only. Headphones use aside, a Bluetooth connection is always possible, presuming the audio set-up has such connectivity. But what if the main music rig is not so digitally-enabled? That’s where devices like China-based Arylic’s S50 Pro and S10 wireless streaming preamps come to the fore. However, the biggest advantage is that streaming music using a direct connection to the Internet (Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, etc.) sounds vastly superior to a Bluetooth connection from a mobile device – this applies to the S50 Pro as well, of course. Bluetooth for me is a bit of an academic subject as it rarely works properly on any product and it was the same here for me. Pairing is easy and whatnot but streaming from YouTube I got constant dropouts, as I often do when trying it and so this is more likely an issue with my phone or the house. CONCLUSIONJust make sure you use the supplied RCA to 3.5mm cable and connect it to some active speakers using the S10’s “Aux Out” port. Add Wireless Capability To Your Home Audio System: Add WiFi, Direct Streaming, Airplay, Spotify Connect and Bluetooth 5.0 wireless capability to your amplifiers, preamps and receivers It is a multi-room device as well which means you can stream with multiple units connected in the same network. How it works Still, it may be of use to a certain demographic of people and thus is still valuable to some degree. As an example, I switched between SMSl su-9/ Ibasso DX160 and the Acylic S10 feeding the Valve amp and I was hard pushed to hear the difference.

I couldn’t afford the bluesound but I could afford this and I’m over the moon. It’s worth a try at that price especially when you can use it elsewhere in your house to access your music. I noticed no big difference in replacing the default USB converter, the unit being fairly well isolated from power converter related noise. We need to mention that S10 has a DAC chip inside, as the main signal it outputs is an AUX signal, or an analogic one. The USB input is for using a USB device with up to 1024 songs on it. AirPlay 1 is supported as well as QPlay, Spotify. The full list of supported Apps includes: iHeartRadio, Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz and Deezer.Arylic S10 is full of useful features and I’m not going to even try to cover all of these in detail since it would take forever. I’ll mention the most important ones and how they worked during the test instead. The Pro V3 board has two siblings. The simplified version saved from not having audio in, USB in, and Ethernet connectivity, I2S output is retained so audio quality upgrade path is still there, and this can be a better choice for speaker build. The more elaborated version includes optical/digital port and an upgraded DAC, which can be a better choice for a streaming amp build. Both will be tested in the near future.

To control the unit and use all of these features, you’ll need to install an app called 4STREAM. I used only the PlayStore version since I’m an Android user, but iOS is also supported. I noticed some stability complaints at the PlayStore comment section, but haven’t experienced such issues myself. The device was listed as soon as it booted, it connected to the app without a hitch and kept working flawlessly for hours. Sound-wise, there’s not much to say about the S10 other than it works exactly as it should. To be frank, it’s hard to see audiophiles getting excited over this except for the fact that it “gives the smarts” to the hi-fi rig. I’ve said enough on the 2021 Node streamer already but suffice it to say this is the most capable all rounder that you can buy for connections, great BluOS app use, Roon Readiness, and features and good sound quality. Watch my review for a low down on what this product is all about. Both these devices are preamps only and will not power a pair of passive speakers. They need active speakers or can be connected directly to a power amp. A spare input on the preamp/integrated works too, but this will not be ideal as both units’ outputs are variable and there’s no option for a fixed line level.

Brilliant Sound Streamed Directly From Your Favorite Providers

Do keep in mind that these services are available through the app; they don’t have anything to do with the unit itself. The S10 is a WiFi and LAN based streamer with Bluetooth, which is principally designed as a pre-amp streamer by virtue of the remote control included, so you can connect it to a power amplifier for onward connection of speakers, or maybe a pair of active (powered) speakers – for instance Acoustic Energy’s AE1’s In this case, it makes for a pretty cool second setup for your living room or wherever you happen to have a pair of Active speakers lying around, but I certainly wouldn’t rely on it as my main setup. The award I give this is heavily influenced by the very low cost of the unit but needs to be taken with caveats mentioned in the body of the review. AT A GLANCE
