Description

To see if it was possible, I completes the whole pruning job, including some very small, precise cuts at the tips of the branches, using only this tool alone and nothing else. Realistically, you could probably make 90% of the cuts in any pruning job with this tool alone, and use a pair of hand secateurs for the finer work. Another alternative to a long reach or telescopic pruner is to invest in a good quality garden multi tool. These often include a chainsaw attachment, hedge trimmer, strimmer and brush cutter and my model of choice is the BUKO Garden Multi tool which I have also recently reviewed. Read my review here (don’t worry it opens in a new tab so you can continue reading this review too)

The Silverline 1.5-2.5mExtendable Pruning Saw is one of the most affordable models in our review. It features a durable, triple-ground blade that cuts cleanly on both the forward and reverse strokes. this doubles your cutting ability and halves your cutting time. For those who wish to orient their bypass action pruners the ‘right way’ when pruning, with the bright orange jaw, it’s really easy even high in a tree where visibility is not the best. The lopper comes with a three-metre lightweight aluminium telescopic handle which has a PVC sleeve for extra comfort. It is the only telescopic tree pruner in our review that has an anvil-style lopper. This type of cutter crushes the branch so don’t expect a clean cut. This anvil tree pruner cuts branches up to 38mm in diameter which is 8mm more than most other models. Some telescopic/extendable pruners are manually powered. They have a ‘squeeze’ handle that causes the blades at the top to close and cut. As long as the blades are sharp enough, this shouldn’t be too hard on the hands. These manual pruners are usually best suited to cutting fresh, live stems/branches as opposed to woodier ones. They’ll work best on bushes, hedges and small, young trees. The third tree I tested the pruners on were a white sapote, which tends to have ragged fibrous edges on the pruning cuts when tools aren’t sharp enough, and I managed nice clean pruning cuts on this tree also. More on this tree in a moment! It’s a good quality machine, and comes in three separate pieces to allow the length to be adjusted. The handle attaches to the end of one section, the saw to the end of the other, and then there is an additional extension piece. This pruner can be used without the extension, and will measure approximately 1.8 m, or with the extension, measuring 2.7 m.

20FT/6m Telescopic Pole Saw,Telescopic Tree Pruner Pole

Remember that the further the pruner is extended, the harder it’ll be to control and use safely. Therefore, it’s best to only extend the pruner as far as necessary, depending on the job. The idea is that when the sharp cutting blade slides past the flat, blunt counter blade below, the blunt side may crush the part of the branch it’s pressing against, while the sharp slicing blade wont. If the part of the branch being cut off get crushed a bit, then it won’t matter, as it won’t be attached to the tree and will be thrown away. They’re chrome-plated and made from carbon steel, resulting in a high-quality tool that can comfortably cut branches up to 6 mm. In some instances, the blades can cut up to 10 mm. The pole is extendable from 130 cm to 200 cm, and is suitable for both mid-range pruning, and cutting higher up. A handle and rope set, containing the middle and lower handles, and the woven strap cord that actuates the blade is also available. It's possible to accidentally trap fingers in the operating mechanism which is something to be mindful of when usingThere are also pruners on the market which extend further, up to 4m, and are ideal for taller trees. Telescopic tree pruners are relatively easy to use, but it’s still important that you take safety precautions. Even small branches can cause a lot of damage if they fall and hit you in the eye. Telescopic pruners can be a little unwieldy, due to their length, so should be used carefully. They’re best used for minor pruning on trees, cleaning up tree trunks and tidying climbing plants.
