Description

Share the poem and rehearse at suitable times throughout the week, e.g. start/end of the day. Help children vary the pitch and tone of their voice as they rehearse to stress the counting words. Hold up fingers to correspond to each number and generate an action, e.g. munch = snap mouth shut. Food colouring (you can do the experiment with just one colour or you can use more colours if you have them).

Peel a large strip of lime zest from the lime, avoiding any of the white pith. Reserve the remaining lime.

All fruit and vegetables are grown. Some underground, some above ground and some on plants, bushes or tress. What do plants need to grow? For this experiment we are going to learn that plants need water to grow and hopefully your child will be able to see the water travelling through the plant.

When we were in Nursery class we planted some of Cariad's apple pips and they have started to grow. Can you find some apple pips inside an apple and plant them? You will have to wait a little while before they start growing, but be patient. Remember they will need soil, lots of light and don't forget to water them regularly. Can you make a delicious fruit salad? What fruit would you like to put in it? Remember to ask a grown up to help you when peeling or cutting up the fruit. Wash the fruit gently in cold water and drain in a colander. Halve and stone the cherries and chop any larger berries in half, then spread them out on a wide, flat dish. Halve and stone the peaches and apricots, then cut them into nice wedges and put with the berries. For the fruit salad, segment the grapefruit and orange, catching the juices in a bowl. Squeeze more juice out of the remaining citrus fruit into the bowl. Set aside the orange and grapefruit segments.Trim the skin off the pineapple and cut out the hard core that runs down its centre. Lay it on a chopping board and cut it into chunks with a crinkle-cut or sharp knife, then place in a large bowl. Top and tail the star fruit, then slice into thin little stars and place into the bowl. Squeeze the lime juice over your fruit and toss gently to coat.
