Each player has four special actions available to them during the game: You can choose to draw the card before or after the chosen card, you can cut a polyomino into two pieces before adding each piece to your grid, you can fill in a 1x1 space in your grid, and you can do one of the above actions a second time. When you take one of these actions, you mark it off as each can be used only once (except for the one you use a second time, if you know what I mean). Button bonanza! Pass a beautifully wrapped single present bonus patch and you will be able to add it to your prezzie pile! What’s more, if you are the first to completely fill a 7×7 portion of your board as you are tessellating your tiles, you will receive Santa’s seven-point bonus! Snow-tastic! Other than earning buttons by skipping turns, you can also earn buttons by passing by the button symbols on the time board. Each time you pass by one of these buttons, you count the number of buttons on the patches on your quilt board and earn that many buttons.

To be fair though, even though it felt like a lot of peices were tearing when I punched them out, when taking pictures for this post I didn’t find many pieces that were damaged. Aside from some frayed edges these are the two worst pieces I could find, and the damage on the second one is very hard to see because of the colors used on that patch. You can’t always rely on getting special patches. By the nature of the game, it can work out that your opponent reaches all of the patch spaces before you. Therefore, try not to rely on them to fill in spaces in the middle of your board.

Patchwork DOODLE was released in 2019. This is a "roll and write" game that uses cards to represent the pieces, and has players roll a die to determine which pieces to play. Players then draw the pieces on a sketchpad board. The Patchwork board game is very simple to setup. Place the time board in the center of the table and arrange all of the quilt pieces in a circle around it. The time board has two sides, they only vary in appearance, so choose whichever side you like better. Place a leather patch on each of the corresponding spaces on the time board, and place the large pawn in front of the smallest patch (the 1×2). The game ends when both players have run out of time - in other words, when they’ve reached the middle of the time board.

All in all this is something you need to decide on your own. The "long" story behind this is, that - when the development of the app started - Uwe suddenly had a platform where he was able to conduct a lot of playtesting easily and fast (the original intend of this was to "teach" the AI). In this process he became aware that the first leather patch statistically is coming to early. This means that in more than approx. 50% of the games, the first leather patch is not useful (as it can't fulfill it means - filling gaps - as there are no gaps at that time). Thus he decided to put the patch on a later space. However, "Patchwork" already was a much appreciated and grat game before that change and a lot of people had no issue with this "statistical flaw". And while Uwes perfectionism in his games is perfectly fine, deciding to not change the board is too. Now, I’m not saying this tasty little roll and write fixed me up some magic pencils, but it did make me put a bit more effort into making something look less toddleresque. Gameplay
