The Hundred-Mile-An-Hour Dog by Jeremy Strong | Goodreads

When Mad Iris, a large and crazy ostrich, escapes from a local farm, Ross and Katie decide that they have to look after her and keep her at their school, Pudding Lane Primary. Written by Jeremy Strong and illustrated by Nick Sharratt, ‘The Hundred-Mile-An-Hour dog’ is a funny story about an incredibly fast dog, which you can list to on the Puffin Books YouTube channel. These packs, which come with an engaging video from Puffin Storytime, are perfect as a task to complete either together or independently. This pack includes fantastic activities that are all based on chapter one of the hilarious book ‘The Hundred-Mile-An-Hour dog’.Then the dreadful Charlie Smugg bets Trevor that Streaker can't beat his Alsatians in the agility test at the local dog show. The crazy ideas that Trevor comes up with to help him walk Streaker are creative, bizarre and usually a complete disaster! Trevor must find a way to walk Streaker whilst keeping him under control and without attracting too much attention from the school bully, the police, fire brigade and his parents. Award-winning Jeremy Strong has written many wacky books for children aged 7-teen, including My Dad's Got an Alligator and My Brother's Famous Bottom.

Create a table that shows the different words used to describe the main characters in the story (Trevor, mum, dad, Streaker, Tina, Charlie etc). She's a rocket on four legs with a woof attached, and Trevor has got until the end of the holidays to train her.

By using these fun, bright activity packs, you can support your child with developing a love of reading alongside practising vital reading skills. I mean I found this pretty formulaic but my 5 year old loved it and wanted to read another Jeremy Strong book pretty much immediately. Nick Sharratt has created illustrations for over two hundred and fifty books during his illustrious career.

Daily Reading: The Hundred-Mile-An-Hour Dog - Chapter 3 Daily Reading: The Hundred-Mile-An-Hour Dog - Chapter 3

This book is good for children who are starting chapter books, as there are still many illustrations and short chapters to read. They're destined to work together at Marigolds Old People's Home - can Cupid's arrow strike among the zimmer frames or is it all just too weird? Trevor has been promised payment from his Mum if he walks Streaker , the dog, everyday during the school holidays. If he fails, he'll lose his bet with horrible Charlie Smugg and something very, very yucky involving frogspawn will happen. A brand new adventure for the Hundred-Mile-an-Hour Dog gives us more laugh-out-loud capers for Trevor and his ridiculously speedy dog, Streaker. Since my own dog is of similar character and a speed demon himself one could easily exchange his name for Streaker.

The Hundred Mile-An-Hour Dog Series by Jeremy Strong - Goodreads

It's probably a little old for them really but they understood that Trevor had to beat Charlie Smugg and get Streaker trained. Trevor has got until the end of the holidays to train her or he will lose his bet with horrible Charlie Smugg and something very nasty to do with frogspawn will happen. If he fails, he'll lose his bet with horrible Charlie Smugg, and something very, very yucky involving frogspawn will happen.

He thinks his writing has been influenced most of all by Spike Milligan, but also by falling on his head when he was three years old. He loves writing stories because it's 'the only time you alone have complete control and can make anything happen'. When he was about eighteen he started writing very serious stories for adults, but none of them were published. Definitely does have more appeal for the target audience though, so if you know any primary school age kids then tell them to give it a go.
