Okay sometimes you just need something that is going to disintegrate any panties in sight and this was that book. It's short and steamy as hell and though there isn't much plot to it we still get a wee insight into these characters and it was enjoyable as hell. I fell in love with this world from the moment I met Alistair and Nate and that love has only grown with every couple, throuple, eggs, and pets we've been introduced to in this fabulous series. Raven is the last in the series, so you need to have read what comes before, and this first book in duet is a sort of prequel, so keep that in mind when you start reading. I will never abandon you. There was a decent plot, but i don’t think it was the focus of the story. It was the first time that the author’s note at the beginning made me google one of the trigger warnings, so that was fun. We meet Delilah and Wells who share an instant attraction and a one night stand which leaves them both more. After a failed number exchange, (the lesson here is to always ring your own phone when swapping numbers!) they each go their own ways thinking the other has ditched them. Fate has other plans though and over the next few chapters we see their paths going forward to the inevitable reunion. Without spoiling it, I really enjoyed the last couple of chapters it totally gave me soap opera/telenovella vibes in a good way!

Even when they realize they're mates and live in pain of having to be separated from each other and the family they could've had together, they don't give up. Decades, centuries go by and yet, they stay loyal to each other and find little moments in time to meet and cherish their love. Secondary characters - friends and families of the heroines were flat and played little more than gossipy "girls" tropes. Even Emma's parents were weird in their interactions with Emma and Gavin. Don't even get me started with the psycho ex-escort office aide who molested Gavin and then stalked Emma. So much of that "dark mysterious" conflict was thrown in to justify making the story as long as it was.I like Sarena as a FMC because, even if she isn't as complex as other female characters from the same author, she has a bubbly, caring and resilient personality that brings beauty and humanity to the story. Hugh is a younger man that starts having feelings for her. They have a huge age gap between them both but this doesn't seem to matter to them.
