The book had a promising premise; the beginning was good with an interesting backstory, but unfortunately, the execution fell short.

it just drags out what they’re originally trying to say, but by the end of what they’re saying…i wouldn’t even comprehend what they were trying to say because my comprehension was buried with all this nonsense.

Emery comes from a wealthy family and lived in a gilded cage for most of her life, crushing on Nash’s brother while being his friend. I’ve been missing the bite that darker enemies to lovers romances like this have, and I might need to start reading more of it again. Even though I cringed when I saw the amount of pages facing me, snail reader here, I kind of inhaled this one, devoured it, sleep is over rated anyways! But I could see how the special words could become tedious, even though they became something special between Emery and Nash. What a way to celebrate December, throw in a new to me author, an easy 5 star read, and characters that I loved equally, this book was the perfect reading material for a shitty cold rainy day!

This book was simply perfection from beginning to end, I just couldn’t put it down, it was that good. I’m sorta not feeling anyone else’s story intriguing in this book and I didn’t really like them much. Get rid of the extraneous fluff, flesh out the characters and pot holes, rectify the inconsistencies, and it could be great.They are so good at hiding their thoughts, their secrets/feelings are not revealed until they hurt each other. This book is enjoyable if you can get past the first 100 pages and ignore the unnecessary waffle throughout. like i’m sorry how is it that y’all don’t know who you’re having sex with especially when they’re literally TALKING. It’s a fantastic book – darker than my usual these days – and I’d love to read more with a similar vibe.

Devious Lies is an addictive, angsty romance with unique characters, chemistry so hot it singed the pages of my Kindle and tons of laugh-out-loud moments that had me cracking up laughing.

And I appreciated all the details threaded in, such as the ways in which Emery and Nash both were making amends for their perceived wrong-doings. It was increasingly frustrating reading their 700 page back and forth, which god bless me, I thought was sooooooo profound the first time around. This is very much a slow and detailed exploration of the relationship between the daughter of a rich business and society leader, Emery Winthrop, and her best friend’s bad-boy, older brother, Nash Prescott.

By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. ladies and gentlemen…nash’s revenge plot against emery and her family for “killing” his dad even tho his dad died of a heart attack. emery and nash were also in an elevator, the lights were out and she didn’t know it was nash she was talking to. there are at least three instances in which these two characters interact but DON'T RECOGNIZE EACH OTHER even though they have known each other THROUGHOUT THEIR WHOLE LIVES. It was interesting to see this character begin to realize that he may have gotten somethings wrong and that he may have feelings for Emery.I absolutely loved Devious Lies when I read it back in 2019, and flipping through the pages while prepping for this post just reminded me how engrossed in the story I was at the time. FYI The not so glowing review - everything they disliked is exactly what I loved - so you can’t always judge a book by another’s review) Seriously, read this book! within the first 10% of this novel, an 18-year-old Emery sneaks into her best friend's bedroom and sleeps with him, only to realize too late that she slept with his brother instead (28 y/o Nash).
