Description

The Prismo screws onto the bottom of an Aeropress as an alternative to the standard filter attachment. You probably already know and have used the regular AeroPress filters, so I won’t spend too much time on them in this post. It will simplify your morning routine and provide a flavorful and consistent cup of coffee every time without having to turn your world (or your AeroPress) upside down. Our best shots have been produced by pressing very hard on the AeroPress® Coffee Maker plunger to initiate the shot, then keeping constant pressure until the plunger squeezes all the way down to the coffee bed.

Espresso is coffee brewed by forcing out a small amount of near boiling water under pressure through finely ground coffee beans. I also made a regular AeroPress batch of coffee using my typical everyday inverted AeroPress recipe and a batch the original AeroPress standard way, non-inverted. Made of durable high grade stainless steel, this filter will give you consistent brews time and time again, resulting in delicious, full-bodied coffee. As a long-time daily user of the AeroPress, I’m always intrigued by new attachments and accessories that appear in the coffee scene. I never had any issues with the valve clogging, but I could see this happening if you ignored it for months.Construction: The Flow Control Filter Cap is one piece, while the Prismo has two parts (gasket and metal filter). As always, we recommend freshly roasted specialty beans with a roast date of 10 days or fewer for optimal taste and flavor. If you’re looking for a way to make espresso at home without an espresso machine then this is probably the closest you’re going to get. On the other hand, if the valve in the AeroPress needs replacing, you'll have to replace the whole unit because they currently don't offer a spare valve.

Earlier this year, our Quality Control Coordinator travelled to Nicaragua on a sourcing trip to meet our Direct Trade partners, the Mierisch Family. Fellow Prismo Filter Quality: It's reported that the metal filter on the Prismo can let a little grit through, but a quality grinder and proper grind size can reduce this. Now, I can reliably bloom my AeroPress coffee (40 grams of water) since the pressure actuated valve on the Prismo is going to hold all the contents in until I press the plunger down. We use cookies to personalise content and ads, to provide social media features and to analyse our traffic. It would be interesting to know what pressure is required to open the valve, but Fellow hasn’t made that knowledge public. The Moka pot, another brewing device that makes pseudo-espresso, uses steam to reach a brew pressure of 1. Workarounds: Some have had luck with pouring hot water in the Prismo (with the filter in place) and letting it sit for a few minutes before dumping it out and attaching it to the AeroPress Go.

After the plunger stops at the bottom, I remove the entire getup from the top of my mug, unscrew the cap with the filter, and plunge the coffee puck into the garbage (or compost bin).

The product team at Fellow is considering adjusting the dimensions of Prismo, as the new AeroPress Go has slightly different dimensions from the previous 7 generations, but we’re not positive if this has happened or not. So, when you see a machine or a coffee recommendation in our top picks, you know it's not just hot air. As the industry is so fast-moving, we aim to keep our content fresh, updating our articles at least twice a year. I tend to use 18 grams of medium to fine ground coffee (check our coffee grind size guide) and bloom for 30 seconds with 50ml of water, then top up to 200ml, flip and then slowly push down on the plunger finishing at around 1 minute 30-second mark on the timer.
