For the Death Guard, I began with a spray of Wraithbone , followed by a coat of Skeleton Horde, except for the shoulders which I gave two coats of Militarum Green to get a beautiful rich green colour. The trim was all painted with Castellax Bronze , which has a lovely dirty tone that complements the nature of the XIV Legion brilliantly. I do think the Citadel base paints across the board are really good. But, this particular metallic is my favorite and I tend to use it for all the gold bits on various models. What About the Retributor Armour Spray? Kind of depends on how you define 'best'... To me, the best, shiniest, and most GOLD gold always comes from a spray or an airbrush. Something about that method of application always makes metallics appear more metal I think. Also acrylic metallics aren't as METAL as enamel based ones in a lot of cases (AK Xtreme Metal is a range that I think looks amazing). Greedy Gold Colour Primer’s slightly different can shape seems to indicate a different producer than the other Colour Primers. The paint applies beautifully, no special treatment needed, just apply short bursts from a distance of about 20 cm, like with any other miniature spray paint your familiar with. The coverage is great, and two thin coats are enough to cover over bare plastic. Durability is also good, as this scratch test shows. Airbrush a basecoat of a 1:1 mix of Vallejo metal color copper and Valejo metal color gold all over the model.

Retributor Armour: Best Gold Metallic Paint? [Review]

Gold metallics in particular have been troublesome for me. It is both a yellow-ish color (which are generally hard to use already), and oftentimes don’t carry the warm-hue and color saturation that makes gold feel…gold. Overall, I really enjoyed the opportunity to paint each of the Traitor Legions, and I’ve added a new skill to my hobby arsenal. I’m very keen now to begin another new Legion, and hopefully, with what I’ve learned in the last few weeks I can speed paint an army to readiness and still maintain a great finishing standard.

I used to hate painting gold. No matter what I tried, it always came down to painstakingly applying thin layer after thin layer to build up the opacity and it still wouldn’t look great anyway. Thankfully, metallic paints have come on a long way and Retributor Armour is one of the best of the bunch. It covers remarkably well and gives a bright, yellowish gold that is really versatile. The thinner is mixed about 1:10 (more gold metallic paint to less thinner). It doesn’t take much to thin the Retributor Armour paint. Make sure you shake your pot before you mix it with any thinners. The metallic flakes do tend to settle if the pot is left sitting around for a while.

alternatively for a more brasssy look I do the same except use nightshade wash and then final highlight with a bit of ledbelcher on top of the gold. I've been using the Scale 75 gold set for my Lizardman team and it works quite nicely. Sadly I can't post pictures but it does produce a pleasing gold colour.
